He claims he is going to put up a new fence around the pasture he broke out so him and his buddy/tenant can go halfsies on feeder calf's grazing the remaining pasture. He thinks my dogs will chase the cattle so we compromised that they will not be left outside unsupervised (which only happens for like 10 minutes in the morning).

He just bought a bunch of fence posts but I doubt they are ever installed/fenced unless his tenant does it.

Here is a joco Ben Ji getting acclimated to farm life story.

(Setting is April 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic and I'm crashing at the farm with my brother)

Around 10am my uncle shows up to check his cattle while my brother and lady are outside by the garage/cattle pens. I see them talking a bit while Lady is sitting next to them.

My brother comes back in and says "Yeah, uncle X said "You better make sure she don't get in my cattle or I'm gonna have to shoot her"

My brother was like "She's good but thanks for the warning"

Great news guyz, the cat ranch is back!

I drove 100 miles 1 way to pick up 4 of them. They've been here a few weeks now. Big decline in Morton mouse population. Working farm cats - my mouse crew.

3rd kitty non stop grabbing my hand to lick and get pets. They were wild until last night.

His response....

Six were caged. Four escaped moving them to my pet carriers. I asked if they had any others and they caught two more and put them in my carriers for a total of 4.

I'm getting a hearty L O L just imagining this scene.....4 of the six cats escaping the transfer then my dad asking if he can get some more.

He saw an ad in the county advocate (local free newsletter aka craigslist for boomers) for free cats so he called the guy then drove up to Norton KS to pick them up.

Also found out that lil lil escaped from the house and went AWOL for a day which led to this conversation.

(My dad has a red early 2000's 2wd chevy S10 that he keeps on the farm that my cousin/uncle make fun of because it's clearly not a "real" farm truck...they call it "Lil Red")

Me: "How did lil lil escape?"

Dad: "Lehman and I were coming back from the pasture and when he opened the door she jumped out"

Me: "what were you guys doing out in the pasture"

Dad: "well I was out by the windmill (water not power) and the tanks are leaking water so I got stuck and Lehman had to pull me out"

Went out to the cat ranch to blast some doves and my dad is slowly taking the garage back over with junk.

(Also it appears he is feeding the cats in the garage again which I specifically asked him not to do after shoveling years of cat crap out of the corners of the garage)

When my uncle's lease was up he left his Mini Ponies in a pen by the barn so my dad bought them for $75 each. I guess he just sold them for like $3-400 each...I found his notes on a table in the house.
