Tahoe is a weird mix of country/rich Californians who pretend to be country. I may or may not have bought this t-shirt....I'm a sucker for anything with an American flag.

Snek!

(And don't you dare kill it, instead try and capture it and move it .5 miles away because I've totally wrangled a poisonous snake before and know what I'm doing)

Now that the yotes got all the cats something needs to keep the rodents in check. I saw a big ole rat out there last time.

pit vipers are so cool.
these rattlesnakes, i love their body shape, how they are short and fat.  i hunted snakes for years as a kid but only found one rattlesnake, brought it home to show mom, then released it by the lake.

my favorite pet snake was a california king that was 50/50 black/white and looked like this-

That river is easily deep enough to drown a miniature horse.

No sunset due to the clouds but the pasture is LUSH enough to cover some prairie dogs.

Pretty crazy compared to 2020 when the cat ranch got 13 inches of rain for the year.

"If it rains" is truly the motto of the high plains.

Possible Cat PLUS Skunk ranch in the future?

This weekend when we were leaving the cat ranch we saw a skunk of the side of the road/windbreak. It was right by the house and where I work Milo on birds so I mentioned to my dad we should stop and shoot it.

He got kind of Angry and told me to leave it be.....now I know why

Ran into this skunk again when I stayed at the cat ranch on the way back from my vision quest. I was walking around the windbreak at dusk while Lady/Milo chased rabbits etc. I heard a kerfluffle by my dad's beehives that sounded different than normal and looked over to see a black & white tail sticking straight up in the air.

Aw eff, the mutts are gonna get sprayed and I'm going to have to clean them. I was able to get Lady to the other side of the windbreak but couldn't find Milo...Turns out Milo was the smart one and had immediately booked it back to the house when they encountered the skunk.

Saw my first 2 deer in person on the cat ranch the next morning. The windbreak makes a U shape that leaves a couple of acres of pasture protected. This was where my Uncle used to drop hay bales in the winter so the grass got beat up and now it's half grass half weeds.

Anyways these 2 guyz were watching me from the weedy part.

My grandpa passed away last week so we all went back to the farm.

Here's his big rock  - "all the rich folks have big rocks in their yard". and yes the deer skull is attached with baling wire (and multiple are attached along his road to the blacktop)

My kids got to go back to the farm and take turns riding in the JD 9650 with my dad while he was harvesting the wheat crop earlier this week. Wheat dust causes me to have asthma attacks so I didn't get to participate.

not sure how long this building's gonna last. not much was stored/accessed there even when I was a kid. Like steps from here a tin pole shed was wiped out by a wind storm a couple years ago.
