Also if you have Amazon prime watch "Harvesting the High Plains" its a PBS documentary about the dust bowl etc around Thomas county KS.

I made my dad watch it and he mentioned that his dad/my grandpa worked for Garvey (the local land Baron of the time) for a bit.

Watching this do documentary again it's crazy how little wheat is grown out in Thomas county now.

From driving around Thomas county over the last 2 days it's maybe 25% wheat and 75% corn/Milo/silage.

There were Garvey grain elevators when I was growing up. I very I could find this same hat at my grandpa's house.

You can grow dry land corn now because of the incredible GMO. Even in completely arid wastelands like Meade. Growing up we’d have circles of corn but dry land was completely ridiculous to consider.

We had irrigated crop land that we mainly grew corn.  Dad always said irrigated corn/crop is guaranteed income.  Dry land is a gamble on weather.  More money to be made on dry land crop, but high risk to lose your ass on loses.

So when I was on my vision quest my dad sent this to our family group chat.

Quote
Family, meet Tasmo !
Born about 10 am.  Momma came out late to eat, dragging Tasmo behind (just gave birth, attached yet).  Brought momma food, showed her Tasmo, left for day's work.  7 pm checked, Tasmo in same place, attached yet to what came outa momma.  Abandoned.  Within 1.5 hrs, Tasmo sucked down 6 eyedroppers of warm milk.  Had to shut house ac off for Tasmo.  Nick name is "Non Stop".  You'll understand when you meet him.  Mom wanted to name him "NO NO NO".

Quote
Tasmo (non stop) is a female I believe.  On half n half now.  Naps for 3 hrs, then "feed me now" time.  Had first cute lil bm (bowel movement).

Yeah, cat populations are self regulating. Tell your dad he is rough ridin' up the balance and there will be repercussions.

Cat census is surprisingly low out there now, only 4-5 adult cats during the last census. I think the 2 orange ones are goners as they have not been seen in months.  :Crybaby:

Taking PTO this week.  Its the annual Tom plays farmer for a week.  Got the 6x6 set to pour a 45 x 45 concrete pad in the barn for a shop area i can clutter tf up like every other farmer.  Concrete guy is measuring the barn when his foot sinks in above the ankle and we discover a skunk has taken up residence with her offspring in a tunnel system in one corner.   After scarring her off we saw her come back and carry her babies off so hopefully we're not Jimmy Hoffa ing any skunks tomorrow.

So my no 1 farmland (wife) managed to rip the side mirror off the gator when she fell out last year.  So I installed another bar across the front and mounted a center mirror.  Fully expect it will get ripped off navigating under a tree at some point.
