Other fun stories -
When we were driving around the pasture my dad kept stopping and using hand clippers to cut what he called "Musk Thistle". He called it Pasture management and told me how Musk Thistle is an invasive species and you need to keep it out of the pasture etc etc. We filled up about 2 tubs worth in the back of his truck. We got back to the farm to burn them and my uncle (Who leases the land and is a real farmer) was there with my cousin. My dad told him about all the "Musk Thistle" he found in the pasture and he should probably check for it. My Uncles told him he sprayed a couple 2 weeks ago and looked in the back of the truck.....he started chuckling and said "That's prairie thistle, you can let it be"
Later when we went back out to the pasture to pew pew my dad cut some more prairie thistle just to spite my uncle
Lady is a total city dog. Hated riding in the back of the truck and every time we stopped she would jump in the front seat. I would have to pick her up and carry her to the bed of the truck.
The wind farm thing might actually happen. My dad is staying at the farm for a couple more days because there is a "Celebration" dinner on Tuesday since they are moving from the pre construction phase to the construction phase. Supposed to have 1v1's with the land owners to schedule the start of construction etc.
After dinner on saturday my dad told me to keep the skillet on, I asked why and he said he was going to cook some hot dogs for the cats. He sliced up a pack (.79 cents at aldi or something "Cheaper than actual catfood!") and cooked the hot dogs then brought them out to the barn cats. He feeds them twice a day when he's out there, Usually whatever his leftovers are mixed with hot dogs then milk poured over it......They do seem to enjoy it though. Currently around 5-7 adults and 10 kittens.
Wildlife Sightings - One coyote running across the pasture over the hill. Like 4 burrowing owls and 2 owl holes. A metric ton of Rabbits near the house, lady chased and chased but to no avail. Cows! Burros and Miniature horses(My Uncles)! All kinds of Birds! And holy hell I was not expecting that many mosquitoes in western KS, just an absurd number of them in the windbreaks by the house.
