No, not a hayseed. I actually got a break the year before because once you cross a certain threshold over six figures, your rate went down and you got a flat refund of like $600 or something like that.
I had to do to the math because I couldn't get everything to add up right when I did my taxes until I dug into the tax tables for Missouri and Kansas. When I owed a lot more in Kansas in 2015, I compared returns to figure out what was different. In 2014, I was able to deduct much, much more, but in 2015, it was much less.
Missouri's tax rate is higher, but I'm able to deduct a lot more there. So, each year, I will owe Kansas. Which is really upsetting because they charge me for not having enough withholding, but I can't withhold anything because I don't earn income in Kansas.
