Haven't we all been taught that government debt isn't real and doesn't matter?  :emawkid:

Agreed, huge budget deficits, spiraling government debt is just numbers . . .  well at least on the Federal level and as long as a Democrat is president.

That said, Brownback is still a dumbass.

K-12 public education should just be funded on the county level.  Pay property taxes to county, county funds schools in that county.

Pre-k - PhD should just be paid by the feds. Pay fed tax, feds pay for schools in their country

I'm not sure if the feds would ever be intimately aware of how to fund each and every school district in the entire country.  Much more manageable on a county level.

Local government is a bastion of legally crazy extremists (either side) and in no way should they control anything as important as schools

I have no doubt that my county will appropriately fund schools.

This is pretty true.  Small towns would really suffer.  I know most of my towns recent leaders and they simply aren't qualified to do something like that.

County leadership may be slightly better, but I doubt it.

have worked some with fed, state and local govt people.  fed employees are almost invariably smarter and better.

I care about my community, my neighbors, my kids, and my own property values.  I certainly care less for some farmer from BFE who leverages himself out the wazoo to purchase more farm ground with a super low property tax rate who doesn't want to pay for his 8 kids' educations.

Having done the same, none of them are more qualified to spend my money more than me.  At least the local folks you can get in front of and have a conversation.

That may be true in terms of access but like CNS said above many of them just aren't qualified to make the right decisions.  Do you really trust some small time hayseed with that much money?

Compared to some other hayseed with several magnitudes more money?  Absolutely.
