One credit downgrade. A second coming. How about the highway fund being wiped out. KPERS. Higher educations cuts. Removal of discrimination protections for gay, lesbian and transgender state employees.

Is this the Salon talking points memo?

I hate to break it to you guys, but the state isn't materially different than it was 6 years ago, 16 years ago, etc., etc.

I didn't read this entire thread. I was merely responding to this question.

How is the state not "materially different than it was 6 years ago, 16 years ago, etc., etc." because of these things. They are factual. They are a result of Brownbackistan.

It has been downgraded since then, and it looks like it'll downgraded again. For the second time in less than two years. Sound economics  :Ugh:

Budget bill that passed yesterday delays pension payments. At least they passed a budget

Bucket Fact: it will probably happen in the future maybe.

Bucket Fact: If only kansas operated more like detroit, or any of the other liberal utopias with worse credit ratings.

The state of Kansas will have the same credit rating as Michigan if it's downgraded again. Like we both believe will happen.

TOPEKA — A national credit rating service says there's at least a 50-50 chance it could lower Kansas' AA credit rating later this year, depending on how the Legislature handles the state's current budget crisis.

The Kansas City Star reports Standard and Poor's Rating Services said Monday it had placed Kansas on a "credit watch" because of the state's budget shortfall and concerns about Gov. Sam Brownback's proposal for filling the gap.

New revenue estimates for the state recently projected a $290 million budget shortfall through June 2017.

Brownback spokeswoman Eileen Hawley says the governor has presented three options for the Legislature to consider in balancing the budget.

The rating service says it will resolve the credit watch in 90 days, based on the Legislature's actions.

We'll find out in 90 days.

Moodys(known liberal rag):
Quote
Moody's Investors Service on Tuesday slapped a negative outlook on Kansas' Aa2 credit rating, citing the state's reliance on one-shot measures to balance its budget.

That followed action late last month by Standard & Poor's, which put Kansas' AA rating on review for a possible downgrade after the state lowered its revenue estimates for the current and next fiscal year by $228.7 million.

Governor Sam Brownback plans to divert $185 million in sales tax revenue from the state' highway fund to the general fund and delay a $96.5 million fiscal 2016 pension payment to help fill the gap.

"By continuing to balance its budget with unsustainable, nonrecurring resources, including pension underfunding, it is accumulating large and expensive long-term liabilities that it will be paying off for a long time," Moody's said in a statement.

The credit rating agency also revised the outlook on $2.1 billion of Aa2-rated Kansas highway revenue bonds to negative from stable.

The Kansas budget is feeling the effects from action taken by Brownback and the Republican-controlled legislature in recent years to cut corporate and other income taxes to help the state compete with bordering Missouri and other states for business development and jobs.

It's gonna be great when KPERS has to sue the state and the courts hammer Brownback yet a gain.

There is a process to remedy this and I think it is time.
State officials
To launch a recall effort, supporters must submit the following:

-An application indicating the targeted official
-Statement of grounds for recall not to exceed 200 words
-Statement that sponsor is resident of Kansas and eligible to vote
-Designation of recall committee with three sponsors
-List of 100 sponsors to circulate petition
-Signatures of registered voters equaling 10 percent of votes cast in last gubernatorial election
-$100 fee

The application must be submitted to the secretary of state's office, with the exception of recalls for the secretary of state's office in which case the application is submitted to the lieutenant governor's office.

I have been told by someone in local politics that the Sec State Kobach has to certify the grounds, which obviously wont happen.

Grounds for recall
In Kansas, the specific grounds for the recall of state officers are defined as follows:[2]

conviction for a felony,
misconduct in office,
incompetence, or
failure to perform duties prescribed by law.

Yes, I saw that as well.  I did not know that about Kobach.  I guess we will have to take him out first?
