Best way to stop a newborn baby from crying
« on: April 13, 2010, 10:03:22 PM »
I have this friend who was all dumb and stuff and had a kid.  Now she (the baby) won't stop crying.  Was just fed, diaper is clean but still all whiny.

Give me your tips and I will pass on to him so he can get some sleep.

When he says swaddle, he means rough ridin' swaddle.  Wrap her really, really tight.  They freaking love it.  Very snug.  Do it.

I followed the below steps pretty closely (usually in this order)

1) Food
2) Burp
3) Diaper
4) Swaddle
5) Rock to sleep
6) Distraction (Lights, sounds, pets, whatever works)
7) Mylicon
8) Car ride around the block (sounds crazy but works great)
9) Doctor visit (newborns get ear infections really easily)

Rinse, repeat.  Sometimes it's a combo of two things that stops them.

Good list, +1 on the car ride, around the block was usually enough for our two.  And when rocking/pacing, GOT to remain unfrustrated yourself...never works if your brain is going "ARRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"  Mylicon I don't remember;  is it new in the last 25 years?

I once I had screaming infant who would not stop screaming unless I swaddled her, and bounced her up and down while standing next to a running faucet.  And I mean the faucet has to be on full blast.  She would immediately stop crying and go to sleep.  Let's just say that I had a really high water bill for her first month of life.  Otherwise, gas drops and a good tight swaddle should do the trick.

New parents just crack me up!!!  New parent =  :runaway:

Christ, I hate doing all of those things.  Glad I'm never having kids.

Also, you'll need one of these for their bedroom so every little noise doesn't wake them up.  My kids still use theirs.

Know an old Afghan lady who suggested I rub poppy paste on the baby's gums.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."
