I voted, but I don't begrudge those who don't.

That article is moronic

Are you going to expound upon that, or just throw grenades and walk away?

Like, it's written poorly? You don't agree with the premise? You don't agree with some of the individual points made? Come on guys, use your words.

It misses the entire point of how democracy works, for starters.

I'll neglect that the author starts the article by talking about national elections. But the premise of your vote doesn't count is so amazingly simple and stupid, it shouldn't really be expounded upon. Of course individual votes count.

The point of the article was that idiots shouldn't be worried about voting, since it does more harm than good, and letting them know that their vote will not be decisive helps assuage their guilt. Too many idiots voted in my state yesterday, and as a result our credit rating will be most likely downgraded in the next 5 years unless some other law is passed to mitigate the damage. The reason? A bunch of morons thought it was some kind of measure to limit government spending. So, yes, their individual votes counted, but none were ultimately decisive, and we'd all be better off if most of them didn't vote.

Maybe we need articles convincing people like lib7 to go vote instead of articles saying you shouldn't vote as if the only vote that counts is the one that decides an election by 1.

You really can't see the forest for the trees, can you? What you are saying is the point of the article, is absolutely not the point of the article. That is just a bullet point to give people a moral out. Then the rest of the article goes on to describe who should take advantage of that, and it's people who would do more harm than good by voting. It's a plea for stupid people to stay home on election day.

It takes all of 3 minutes to inform yourself on the candidates in any given election.

No the problem is that not enough idiots voted. I think it is too much to ask that the general public are informed with the issues, and frankly even if you are informed and have the capability to make your own decision instead of one that someone else tells you who you should pick (the latter trips most up, people like K-S-U-W look to radio personalities, cable networks, and websites to tell them who they should like and what to say to the haters). So then you get these midterm elections where most of the people feel like they aren't informed enough to vote when in fact they are just as informed as the people actually taking the effort to vote. The flaw in "you're/I'm too uninformed to vote" is that none of us know, especially when it comes to the big races. Often these candidates are running on a false platform or are prone to changing what or who they portended to be during a campaign. So what you are left with is what we have now, every four years people will vote for president because they think they know these people, but the midterms you have half of the people willing to make a decision based on what we think we know and the other half that won't bother. The issue is the people that don't bother, not the people who do.

Most people are aware of the party platforms of republicans and democrats and vote accordingly. It makes sense for national elections, but it can be harmful on local elections.

Right, but using this test requires you to make the determination that everyone else is making an informed decision. There is no way for you to know whether or not you are making a uninformed decision as it relates to the people that show up. There is no moral out for choosing not to participate in the democratic process.

I agree with this.  I know a whole lot of ppl that said they supported Davis.  I know for a fact many of those ppl don't vote often.

Speaking of idiots...

I brought this up in another thread but dumb and dumber swallowed it up, but I need to know the people who voted for Paul Davis and Kris Kobach. Kobach got 75,000 more votes than Brownback, how in the hell does that happen, I'm confused.

I think a lot of pissed off republicans voted for Umbehr. He got 4 or 5 percent of the vote.

He only got 33,000 votes. So if every single Umbehr voter picked Kobach that still leaves over 40,000 unaccounted for votes. But for the people so pissed at Brownback that you voted for Umbehr, how could you be mad at him but vote for his bag man?

I can't speak for everyone. I voted for Davis and Schodorf. I think a lot of people self-identify as republicans and were made aware by television advertisement, etc that Sam Brownback has cut education funding, caused the state's credit rating to get downgraded, etc, so they decided to vote for Davis or Umbehr. Schodorf didn't even campaign, so those who don't pay attention to the news and don't know Kobach is basically Captain Dickface probably just voted for the republican.

A lof really rough ridin' stupid and uninformed people are trying figure out why non-stupid and informed people voted the way they did in this thread.

Clearly only a handful of morons bought off on the contrived budget and school crisis. Those crisis were fabricated and propogated before brownback was even sworn in and 2 years before his "devastating" tax cuts took effect.  People aren't stupid and the budget is readily available on the web.

As evinced herein, apparently democrats didn't get the message from last night - Americans are tired of phony crisis and idiotic distraction (contraception, climate, gun laws). They actually want to work and ascend the economic ladder, not receive shitty free healthcare and a box of rubbers. They also don't want to be taxed without any accountability for how dollars are spent.

Your policies failed, your rhetoric and lies ran out of time, and you clearly are not the smart people in the room. Wake up.
