Re: the Wildcat.

Bill wants to create an extra blocker at the point of attack, so he runs his QB. We know this. So whenever Charles lines up back there and slams his body into a mass of humanity for the good of EMAW, it's one more play that Jake doesn't have to. Given Jake's slight build and our QB depth, I emphatically endorse this course of action.

Plus, it's a fairly unpredictable formation and is pretty difficult to defend, especially in a league where defenses are getting smaller to stop the spread.

I will defend the Wildcat consistently because I think it can be effective when used with the right personnel and in the right situations. Jones runs really well out of it.

However, we ran it twice where it lost most of its effectiveness on Saturday. 1st, we ran it after showing it before a timeout. It loses any and all surprise at that point because you know the defense discussed it during the timeout. 2nd, we ran a slow developing play (counter trey with two pulling linemen) on short yardage. I liked this new wrinkle, but at the time I didn't think it was a good idea because Jones had to go lateral before getting vertical which allowed ISU to blow up his blockers and stop it for no gain.

We were going to run the counter trey before ISU called the timeout. Then we added an extra back and ran something different, only to get stuffed. The Wildcat failing to gain yards on 2 different occasions really is not a valid reason to stop running it, though. No play is perfect and every play will fail to gain yards every now and then.

I was annoyed by this as well.

Here's some stuff on Charles from his prep career. http://search.nola.com/charles+jones+mandeville/ He had some pretty monster stat lines (for a program better known for its defense).

Hey, Charles Jones!  Nice work today, fella.  Great job on the three TD's.

D-Mac shouldn't be getting this many carries. Charles Jones is immeasurably better.

Jones is a little dinged up. Didn't need to run him 20 times today.

Jones is good and looks like he's added girth during the season, but he doesn't seem very durable

I feel like Jones' arms and legs move faster than he actually does.

Jones is better but I can see why Robinson playing is a must.  I'd like to know why we aren't passing them the ball in the backfield anymore.  We seemed to have a lot of success with that at the beginning of the year.

I think we saw some teams that didn't account for them in coverage or bring much pressure. Snyder's offense has always used backs and tight ends in pass protection a lot and this year is no different. Snyder would rather rely on guys like Lockett and Sexton reading defenses from the reciever spot and running really good 2 or 3 receiver route combinations with max pass protection.

It will be more important than ever for all the running backs, including Gronk to step up next weekend.  We have to establish a run game.

Jones' warm-up shirt said "Chuckie" so that's what I'm calling him from now on.

Two morons behind me complained on every Charles Jones run, they played a montage of his runs and one guy said "he should of popped all of those."

I complained to KK and Scary Smart after every Jones run. He looked good in the second half but I still bitched.

He was very good at reading inside/outside zone blocks, finding a crease, then getting downhill. He had a couple runs were he used multiple lateral moves, but not very often.

I was only disappointed when he took himself out on the 1st fourth quarter FG drive and then didn't come back in. I looked at the sideline and he was completely gassed and appeared to make no move to get down with the coaches to get back in the game.
