I will defend the Wildcat consistently because I think it can be effective when used with the right personnel and in the right situations. Jones runs really well out of it.
However, we ran it twice where it lost most of its effectiveness on Saturday. 1st, we ran it after showing it before a timeout. It loses any and all surprise at that point because you know the defense discussed it during the timeout. 2nd, we ran a slow developing play (counter trey with two pulling linemen) on short yardage. I liked this new wrinkle, but at the time I didn't think it was a good idea because Jones had to go lateral before getting vertical which allowed ISU to blow up his blockers and stop it for no gain.
