Visiting Manhattan for a game, give me the lowdown
« on: September 03, 2014, 11:39:29 AM »
Family of 5, ranging from late 20s into our 60s will be in town for the Auburn game. I don't know anything about Manhattan, so what should we visitors expect on a Thursday night? Where to park? Where to eat? Where to tailgate? What else should we know?

Looking forward to the game, War Eagle.

As far as fine dining goes, head to Kite's in Aggieville and get the burger. It was rated best sports bar in America. You can park and tailgate right next to the stadium. Plenty of parking all over.

Probably the coolest bar in all of manhattan sits under ground. You have to talk to a cop to be able to get in. It's like a legendary cave. Auntie Maes is what it's called. Plenty of room and good ppl down there. Grab a Tarantuala.

You can park at BSFS. Tailgate their as well.

What are you guys looking to do? Party hardy? Or keep it family oriented?

adult family-oriented. we can grab a few beers, but probably don't want to funnel beers with the co-eds.

Since the game is on a school night, I would expect a pretty light crowd.  Like the previous poster said, parking and picking a seat in the stadium should be fairly easy.  Go to Aggieville for food.

Good luck and welcome to the board.  I hope your tigers can bounce back from the loss to Georgia last weekend (just not against us  ;)).  Cheers!

Obviously a burger from Kites.

$0.25 draws at Aggie Station on game days.

go ahead and get to Kites as early as possible, I believe they open at 11 am. the place will be packed and you dont want to be waiting for an hour, even though the burger is totally worth it.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

Eat in Aggieville, I recommend So Long. Grab beers in Aggieville. Stay away from Kites.

Great comeback against Wisconsin. I was thoroughly impressed by the Bayou Bengals.

After the game, head to Bobby T's. That's where the townies go. Then load up the car and hit Aggieville. Start at the Aggie Lounge and order the house special (Busch Light can). Hit as many bars as you can, but go to Bushwackers (not sure if it is still open) last. That's where all of the Ft. Riley soldiers hang out. Be sure to thank them for their service.

It can be tough to tell if I'm being trolled, if part of the post is a troll, or if you just made an honest mistake confusing Clemson with Auburn. In any event... picking a seat in the stadium should be easy? Is the stadium general admission? That seems strange, but I don't have my tickets in hand just yet so I can't be sure.

Excellent questions, sorry about the confusion.  No I was just saying that with class the next day there will be a bunch of open seats, so if you say, buy upper deck tickets, you can probably walk down to the lower level and sit somewhere else during the game that has a better view.

You definitely want to make the trek over to the SW corner of the stadium about 60 minutes before the game. There is a statue there of Ernie Barrett, Mr. K-State. We have a little tradition of welcoming visiting fans there with some of our fellow bloggers. #dojo

And my apologies about the Georgia game, sometimes I get my Tigers mixed up.  I see you guys actually beat the Pig Aggies in week 1 by a narrow margin, congrats!

Do you like squirrel?  I hear it is a popular dish in the South.  Anyway, we have a lot of fat, stupid squirrels on our campus so should be some good pre-game eats.  Feel free to "take some for the road."

You see we have this tradition during our pregame of the players running up a genuine Flint Hill right north of our stadium and touching a limestone postrock.  Be sure to get their early to check out this long-standing tradition!
