Our best athletes are playing where the biggest paycheck is.

Chicken and egg.  The biggest paycheck is where the best talent is.

Nope.  Both are where the most fan and marketing interest are.  Ochocinco is a good example.   Was able to chose soccer or football scholly for college.  He chose football because of the ceiling height difference for a possible career.

That story isn't true at all, Chad Johnson attended Langston University as a freshman and got kicked out. My brother played football there and Chad hung out with the football players but didn't play.

If it were actually true, he would have picked football because if soccer was going to be a viable career for him long term he wouldn't have had the choice of a soccer or football scholarship in college he wasn't a soccer player held in any regard at all.

I'm pretty mad that soccer is more popular than rugby.

This one really bugs me. Especially when Americans start talking that way too.

Those parents are insane.  My kid was 8 last season and we played against an invite inly tryout club team. They had practice five days a week, games twice a week, a full time head coach for the club they played under, a full tume coach that was strictly a hitting coach for the club, and and no fewer than three assistants in the dugout as well.  8years old.

They smoked everyone.

I don't get why parents don't understand that if they just invest the money they pay their coaches and for travel expenses, their kid could go to any college they wanted rather than paying all that money and still only being good enough to get a scholly from a DII.

My parents pretty much did this twice.  I tried to tell them.

Do you think sports helped you in any other way? I mean, I think learning how to lose and learning how to seek revenge and coming back and kicking that other team's ass the next time you play them are pretty valuable life lessons.

I think it helped me in lots of ways, but it's not like kids who don't do competitive sports miss out.  You have a girl playing softball, yes?  My advice: don't ruin it for her.  I kinda hate soccer now because it was shoved down my throat for so long.  My parents spent way more on my sister and she was a #1 recruit in the nation, got a full ride and a communications degree, and she's still hunting entry level jobs as a 28 y/o.

Yeah, the kids can have fun, be competitive, learn to win and lose, and get some exercise playing at the rec level.

While you're in school, generally play sports and pass classes

We don't force our kids into anything. If we did, it probably wouldn't be soccer. My son loves it. We told my daughter she needed to get involved in something, and we didn't care what. She chose jazz and soccer. Seems to like both, but certainly isn't forced into them and doesn't particularly excel at either. She opted to stick with both, but may cancel one and take up piano. (She can do them all, but I think she will cancel one.)

Sorry to hear that, slobber. Are there no DARE programs in the Carolinas?

too many parents make it about themselves and try to live vicariously through the kid. sad, indeed.
