pretty much the whole sun belt and warm cities are glorified suburbs where you have to drive everywhere. there's no "there" there.

atlanta? awful.
dallas? crap, i'd rather be in atlanta.
houston? proves money can't buy you taste.
phoenix? not sure it's sprawl-y enough. i do know that it's probably a good idea to move there, create grass lawns and golf course, and have lots of pools. why the hell wouldn't you?

for 'clams: l.a. is not my cup of tea, but i "get" it
for 'cat: s.f. is my favorite u.s. city, but not sure i consider it a "warm" city

there's definitely a lot about LA that can suck.  if i didn't know where to go and when to go, i wouldn't like it either.  i guess that's true about anywhere, just exacerbated in a city of +10M people.
