She was there to illustrate what can happen when a red priest/priestess resurrects someone. They might be ok like Barric or they might end up zombie-ish like Cat....so when Jon Snow comes back we don't know what shape he will be in.

Yeah. Brienne was taking Jamie to them at the end of the last book.

These books are a series of stories with an overarching plot. She might not be that important to the overarching plot, but I think she'll be very important to Jaime's story.
