I know they're our sister school and all, but dude.  John Wooden.

I can't help but discount Wooden's success a bit for the money being pumped into that program in those days.  Regardless or whether the coach knew what was going on.  something is a muck when you just start winning every game 15 years into your career.

K has won championships in three different decades, he has won with NBA ready rosters, he has won with four year college types, and he has won with a mixture.  Hell even many of his players to leave early have also graduated early.  And K has never had more than a hint on NCAA improprioties.

John Wooden wouldn't let a dude have facial hair because he was so old school.  No way dude cheated.

You have to consider that when Wooden was winning his championships, there were only 16 friggin teams in the tornament and only one team per conference was let in.  What Wooden did was cool and everything but to me, what Coack K has done is more impressive.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

THAT is a point I will be willing to consider, but probably not that he cheated to do it.  Of course, the tornament was stacked solid at that time, because everyone who won it won their league (no Northern Iowa-esque Cinderellas :users:).  And I'm not trying to take anything away from Duke, because what Coach Kroojawooskie has done is certainly amazing, but when talk to me about him being the best when he wins 88 games in a row and wins another title...because that fifth title would put him at 1/2 of what Wooden won.  Plus, Wooden has amazing long earlobes.

Doesn't it reflect badly on Wooden that he was in charge of such a dirty program?  He's either incredibly stupid and unaware or looking the other way.

self is the new wooden.  coach K has a ways to go until he can match seff's 6 consecutive big 12 north banners.  2 championships and countelss final fours is a good start.

True, but the point is still valid.  Some people seem to act like K quit recruiting good players, but he didn't.

I haven't noticed anyone saying this.  Probably because I haven't watched any talking heads.

Probably a good thing to do.  Several talked about how K changed his recruiting strategy over the years and doesn't go after one and done types, which in part is probably true.  But he still recruits really good players.

All of our recruiting discussions seem to circle back to this. I think it's because I hope that this is why we haven't landed any elite NBA one-and-doners since Beasley. And it may really be a good strategy, but it just sounds too much like "only want kids that really want to be here" justifications for me to completely buy it.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Frank doesn't "recruit" one-and-dones because he can't.

If a coach is not getting "one and dones" it's always because they can't.
