they are 7-0 vs the mets cf3. i know that can be misleading, but they already beat deGrom twice. it's really hard to go 7-0 vs a team.

BUT like i said before, the playoffs are super random and the mets could win in 7 or something. they do have home field

I heard an interview with Curt Schilling yesterday and he doesn't think the playoffs are random because it's the only time when all of the players are totally locked in to every pitch of every at bat.

so he thinks it's fair to judge an entire season based on just a few crazy games in october? weird

What's random about the best players playing their best? There's certainly a sample size issue but that isn't at all random. I'm not sure how anyone could claim that the four teams who won their series' weren't the better team in that series.

baseball is just kind of a weird sport though.  a lot of it is left up to chance.  i mean, even the best players only get hits 3 out of every 10 times.

i wouldn't say it's "random."  but a lot of it seems like it's more odds based, relative to other sports.

i love sports stats, and predictive analysis.  but one of the things i hate about it is the devaluing of the actual results.

actually, maybe that places too much blame on stats.  there's always been this idea that championships should be won by the best team, or its converse that whichever team wins a championship is the best team.

both are not only Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), but i find them almost offensive.  sports is about momentary, fleeting achievement.  if a bad team can achieve beating better teams, i find that thrilling.

In response to Dlew and sys's conversation, is there any metric in determining the best team in said year? Final winning percentage? It's also kind of sad how often, moreso in basketball due to the lesser number of starters, a championship is greatly affected by injuries to what could very well be the best team.

I agree with this, however, the '06 Cards were crazy lucky.
