Horror Movies Thread
« on: April 19, 2014, 03:53:37 AM »
This thread is ONLY for fans of horror movies.

There is a pretty fine line between a great horror movie and a really terrible one. But some terrible ones are so bad that it makes them great! What are some of your favorites? I just watched "Let The Right One In". Very original, I enjoyed it a lot.

My current favorite is probably "Child's Play 2". Every set in every scene is so perfect and the deaths are so fun.

The most disturbing one I have ever seen is definitely "Martyrs". Hard to recommend it to people because it could mess you up for a while.

Don't get me started on "Evil Dead", the original or the remake. So good in so many ways. Just absolutely top notch horror flick right there.

And then you have the really fun ones that make fun of the entire premise and are basically meta-horror movies like "Scream" and "Cabin in the Woods". I could watch those on repeat.

John carpenter's The Thing, Event Horizen, alien/aliens.

The exorcism of Emily Rose really messed me up for a while. I swear I woke up at 3am for a week straight then couldn't sleep the rest of the night. On the last night our home phone rang at 3am and nobody was there.  :horrorsurprise:

Only movie I ever had to stop watching and finish the next day.

Evil Dead is clearly the Cadillac of the genre...I haven't seen the remake, did they do a good job with it?

Entirely too many modern Horror movies are PG-13

The Saw franchise turned into a mockery of itself toward the end, but the first one/couple were pretty damn intense

Probably not an 'according to Hoyle' Horror movie, but the single most intense/'real' scary movie I've ever seen is Funny Games w/ Tim Roth & Naomi Watts...if you haven't seen it, you are missing out - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808279/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_16

True Story, when I was 5 I snuck down from my room & watched part of/most of Poltergeist from the steps when my Parents & Sister were watching it...nightmares for 6 months b/c of the pool scene specifically

Don't like horror.

Inland Empire, turned up on a good system, alone, is tough.

Soft core pron horror movies are really the tits.
Usually prom or cheerleader related. I can't think of the name of any of them off the top of my head, but they can be fun to watch.

Convince Stevesie Wife that its a romance film and she will believe it for the first 2/3rds of the flick.  Then it gets weird.  Really good.

Funny Games (Original or Naomi Watts shot for shot remake) are both really good.

Evil Dead was a good call to remake because you can just make it really over the top and can't go wrong.

Enjoyed Drag Me to Hell quite a bit in a fun Sam Raimi way.  Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was also fun.  Raimi and Del Toro should be the only people allowed for big budget horror.  Also, probably whoever did Cabin in the Woods.

The Phantasm movies are pretty great IMO.  They filmed a new one recently but I'm not sure about the release date.  Here is a teaser trailer for the new one - Phantasm V Ravager

The Strangers scared the crap out of me when I watched it the first time.....mainly because I feel like that could happen in real life.  That movie has been taken off the list as one we watch at the lake.

The Descent is hands down my favorite horror movie.  I like to imagine the sequel never happened because that ending is perfect.

I'm still looking for that horror movie that keeps me up, still haven't found it.  I love watching them in hopes of getting scared, but it never seems to happen.

Mr. Bread would probably be able to offer more insight than me, but Martyrs is about as disturbing as it gets. I come back to Dead Alive but that's only because all the blood was claymation and claymation makes me sick to my stomach for some reason. Probably too much Celebrity Death Match as a kid.
