So I read that Bran won't be in a single episode this season. While I'm not a huge fan of his story arc, it seems weird.

Iirc, the show and the books are pretty much caught up with his story for now, yet they have quite a bit of Jon and Danny ' s story left to catch up w bran.

Yes, Bran's story is caught up to the books, but also he is just going to be sitting there learning how to be a warg/wizard or whatever from that guy attached to the tree, so that would be pretty boring to watch. It will be better when he shows up in Season 6 as a fully powerful necromancer.
