I think Bill should list Sams in the rotation for every position so opposing coaches will be all  :horrorsurprise: .

I would not have a hard time believing that Waters is our third best quarterback.

Huh?
Staff loves Ertz and Sams is better than Waters.

Last year would certainly suggest otherwise.   Waters was very solid the last half of the season.   IF Ertz is that good, a move to WR is best for Sams and the Wildcats.  Love Sams athleticism, he needs to be on the field almost every snap.

Why do we think he'd actually play much at WR? We already have athletic players at those positions who have been training as WR for years, and it sounds like the staff likes Burton and Jones.

He played WR in hs fwiw.

Yeah but that was 4 years ago, and he wasn't full time WR in high school.

I remember Bill saying that we had to get Daniel more opportunities after nearly every game in the back half of our season.  But in reality Daniel got fewer opportunities as the season went on.  I expect this pattern to continue next season until this staff shows they have finally got there collective heads out of their extremities.  A position change just gives them another excuse.

They'll still line him up occasionally when they get good personnel matchups.

My favorite wide receiver during my undergrad was Chris Harper.  From what I've heard he was a good quarterback. . .which translated to him being a great receiver.  Sams isn't as big as Harper, but his open field play making ability makes him more valuable since he will be utilized on short passes.  My worry is that he won't be able to block.   :dunno:

"As a quarterback last season, Sams was spectacular at times while touching the ball. Despite the limited role, he still finished ninth in the Big 12 with 807 rushing yards while averaging 5.31 yards per carry with 11 touchdowns. "

Still think he needs to bulk up and move to RB.

Yeah, I mean, he was pretty good.

He also started splitting time at WR and QB in his first year at Oregon. They intended to have him play WR until they had injury issues at QB. Just saying he worked on it a lot longer. I'm guessing it's pretty hard to switch positions in one year at this level and see time immediately when you have other talented players at the new position.

Snyder was pretty secretive about the running back competition. . .chances the whole Sams to WR is a ruse?

sams to rb talk is absurd. like, maybe you don't understand what different football positions require?

Put Sams wherever IDGAF.  As long as he's on the field.  As far as RB goes I wish we had more options.  Does anyone remember how awesome it was when we had multiple sceme sets at RB?  Like Josh Scobey and Roc Cartwright, or Mick, Vic, and Thick?

"maybe you don't understand what different football positions require?"

2013 Rushing Statistics

NAME   CAR   YDS   AVG   LONG   TD
John Hubert   198   1048   5.3   63 (TD)   10
Daniel Sams   152   807   5.3   37   11

Damn what a huge rough ridin' difference.

Daniel Thomas had the perfect frame for it. He could power through holes, truck defenders and then take off. I'm afraid Daniel is a lil too slender and bird-legish.

The way we used sams last year was just disgusting and sad. Putting him in for two pre-determined QB runs into the teeth of a 9 man box then a desperation heave downfield on third down was borderline abusive. Every time he was in I felt like a close friend of mine was in a bar fight and I couldn't help him I just had to stand and watch the beating. All I want this year is for sams to have an enjoyable college football season and get some sort of legit opportunity to showcase his skills. I just want Daniel to have some fun guys.

I think I have an idea, but I'd really enjoy hearing your breakdown of why sams isn't built to be an effective QB.

Also curious how having two QBs in the backfield could be anything but awesome?

TIA

Last year would certainly suggest otherwise.   Waters was very solid the last half of the season.   IF Ertz is that good, a move to WR is best for Sams and the Wildcats.  Love Sams athleticism, he needs to be on the field almost every snap.

He wasn't a full time QB in high school either.   Dude is plenty athletic emough to play WR.   Can you imagine him playing the slot?   Dude could be deadly after the catch.

We seriously need to find something else spring football related to post in this thread.  Sams at WR is a dead horse.
