“Shiny Happy People” is very good. I grew up with about 0.5 degrees of separation from a lot of fundamentalist teachings that are discussed in the doc. Worth watching if you grew up in a fundamentalist or evangelical context.

It's equal parts scary and enraging, to me.

There was an elder in my church who was 100% bought into Gothard-ism. I think my parents thought he was cult-y and weird but the underlying toxic beliefs about authority, "proper roles for women" and raising kids were pervasive in my upbringing. Seeing the words about "child training" coming out of their mouths was gut wrenching.

The Joshua Generation stuff about how they have systematically planned to groom kids to be elected representatives and impose their morality through law is really disturbing to me. It's been really effective. Not trying to Pit this thread up, though.

I think the batting average of season 3 is higher than season 2, but the hits on season 2 are absolutely incredible.

That's crazy that none of your top 5 are from season 1. It's crazy that right now none of my favorites are in season 3, but I can also see a scenario where 6 months from now, season 3 has some of my all time favorites. I think a lot of it has to do with which one your friends latch onto and quote, not to mention how much some of the sketches change between your first watch and tenth watch.

the last season of Succession (esp the 2nd half) is excellent, but one nancy neg is that somewhere around ep 3, i noticed all the characters (esp Shiv) started saying "..., yeah?" at the end of nearly every sentence. do you think this was like an inside joke among the actors or were all those "..., yeah"s written into the script?

I noticed that big time with Shiv. I was alway too lazy to look it up but I wondered if it was like something the characters were supposed to subconsciously have adopted after the events of Ep. 3 like channeling their dad.

The shift might have been intentional, to highlight the increasing level of anxiety among the kids, i.e., nervous ticks.

I've also wondered if they shoot this show like a more structured Curb Your Enthusiasm. As in, they give the actors *some* lines and explain the purpose of the scene, and then let them ad lib a bit. But only for certain scenes.

Season 9 (final season) of Endeavour releases on the PBS app later this month.

First ep of season 9 was good. The end of Endeavour is going to hit me hard but not as hard as Foyles War. I will never love another show that much.

Holy crap. I just started this show and it is the most wholesome rough ridin' thing I have ever watched. Jesus, I have cried twice and laughed immediately after in both episodes I have watched. These are wonderful souls.

I knew a new season was coming out this summer, but I didn't realize they had released it already. Thank you for the heads up! Rotten Tomatoes isn't the biggest fan but I'm still excited.

Terminal List was a pretty good bop.  It was a little hard to reconcile Chris Pratt with his certain aspects of his character but there was a lot of ass kicking which I always enjoy.
