how do you guys listen to your records? olde timey stereo cabinets? polyphonic high fidelity stereo-phones?

(maybe this is new thread worthy)

I have a Sansui FR-D35, a cheap preamp, and some M-Audio Studiophile AV 40's. Pretty simple and cheap, but sounds good enough. I never listen to vinyl on headphones - I'd prefer to listen to digital on headphones because I can move around.

For turntable shopping (if you don't have one), I'd recommend craigslist instead of something new. Just set a price limit and search. Then, look up the model here:

http://www.vinylengine.com

for opinions on the turntable, manuals, setup tips, etc. It really makes it pretty easy.

i'd also recommend estate sales, you can run into some real incredible stuff sometimes being sold by family members who have no idea what they are selling.

i always stay away from these things. one thing fails, and you have a giant piece of trash. the sound quality is usually awful as well, but to each his own.

Wantlist is worth doing.  When you find a record you want, it will tell you how many other records you want that the seller has.

I guess I do the wantlist thing for notifications and stuff.

those do look pretty sweet.

Do you have to move the belt to play 45's?

This is my dream setup

Technics SL-1200

Kenwood KA-7002

Acoustic Research AR-58s

...I have the speakers, but need the rest of the assembly. I'm currently running my AR-58s with an NAD C 326BEE, but I'd like to switch out the 58s with some Boston Acoustics CS 260 II and use an Oppo BDP-103 to play CDs and crap.

This is who I am...I have no problem crying. - Jerome Tang

that would be a pretty sweet set up. I love the NAD stuff. Really reasonably priced for a great sound. My dream set up always involves this though

Just bought it.  :Woohoo:

Was going to tell you to jump on it because I am having no luck finding my parents' record.
