They didn’t factor in that fat raise you got. I’m sure you’re taking the standard deduction so I doubt there’s much you can do creatively here. Paying at the end of the year means the government loaned you money interest free. Don’t sweat it!

don't sweat it until you get penalized for it anyway.
Yeah the IRS has threatened me with that but I haven’t owed taxes in like four years cause of deductions. Seems very unfair.

My office moved to the Missouri side in the first week of '21 so I won't have to file in two states anymore which I'm pretty pumped about.

The good news is all of my private student loans will be paid off in the next year, so I'm fully rough ridin' erected about that!

We owe taxes for the first time in quite a while.  Both my wife and I made significantly more money last year and her employer squashed her side consulting gig removing a lot of our normal deductions.

I haven't even started thinking about 2021. Just got my 2020 refund that I filed for six months ago.

I sold company RSU's and did the "sell to cover" for taxes and I'm doing my taxes and it looks like I'm being taxed on what was sold to cover taxes. :curse:

I need a break

I got an extension last year to give us time to sort through mrstdaver’s business stuff.  Probably gonna do it again.  Really easy for any of you procrastinators out there.

It is an extension of time to file, not an extension of time to pay. Just a head's up for any :kstategrad: out there looking to put off that bill due in a few weeks.

Try to balance to get zero out and zero in.  Usually get something like $150 from fed and owe something like $100 to ks.  This year, they both paid me a couple hundo.

Not upset about it.

Same, after we bought a house and had kids, i started paying an accountant.  My 2021 refund was so unexpected, i actually followed up with the accountant to make sure there wasn’t a mistake.

the important part of hiring an accountant is a strict Don't Ask Don't Tell policy.

The important ones, like did you have a child in 2021.  But that’s all i can think of.  Obviously not telling them about my fortune buried in the backyard

A good accountant will only ask you yes or no questions and they will make it very clear which one is the right answer
