I guess I don't see why you would support one and hate the other. Both are offensive chants that would lead to awkward conversations with kids or mom, as pointed out on this thread. Neither make the school look good. Deadbeat daddy is a bit more clever and funny. I would be more offended if I got called a deadbeat dad than getting told to go eff myself.

i have no problem with any of it.  i find the hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness by the posters who attacked the tech fan unappealing.

I don't like the swearing or lack of creativity.  Elevator and dead beat daddy are both fine by me.  If a student wants to yell a swear word individually, that's fine too.  If a kid hears it the parents should know that is the collateral damage of being next to the student section.  Subjecting the whole stadium to swearing by collectively chanting is too much.  Parents shouldn't have to worry about that when they bring their kids to games.

There are plenty of non-swear word things people can chant that are actually funny (like elevator) if they put even a little bit of effort into it.

posters who attacked the tech fan and defend the kstate crowd should congratulate themselves on their powers of rationalization.

You'd have to be a pretty big rube not to see a HUGE difference between the two.  I'll grant they are both on the same side of stupid fan crap, but on totally different ends of the spectrum.

The difference mainly is that the tech fan made himself look like a jackass, while our students instead make our school look bad while enjoying anonymity.

We chant insults at players, too. Those are usually creative and funny, though. The difference is that we could single out the Tech fan and we can't single out the KSU fans. If there were just one person screaming "eff KU" over and over again during a timeout or something, where everyone could hear him, he would be escorted from the gym and we would all be discussing what a horrible person he is, just like the Tech guy who got shoved or Melvin Weatherwax.

Sorry for randomly bringing this up, didn't get a chance to respond before.

My issue with the Smart/Orr interaction is that was a direct interaction between a student athlete and an overzealous fan. That fan took it too far because it was a personal attack where he looked a kid in the eye and used works of fisticuffs.  Now I find the  KU chant stupid and lowbrow, but there was not a singular interaction between a student/fan/alum and the player.  Now I would say the line is much finer between the Marcus Smart stuff and the dead beat daddy chant, where the stadium was directly targeting a student athlete.  But in my mind, because the F KU chant was SO generic, it didn't approach a personal eye to eye confrontation.
