I think if this guy is texting with a media personality, he can go ahead and assume its not a private conversation

Yeah. If anything, it's Doug's friend who is the snitch. He's the one who screen shotted his texts and sent them to a member of the media who also happens to be an OSU fan.

He isn't obligated to share that info.

I think if this guy is texting with a media personality, he can go ahead and assume its not a private conversation

Gottlieb got it from the person texting with Jeff Orr

Right, but it's safe to assume his "friend" is a member of the Texas Tech media, right?

The only basis for assuming that is to justify what you think, we've gotten no evidence at all to make that a reasonable assumption

Yeah, I can't make that assumption with any amount of real confidence, but it sure makes sense to me. :dunno:

If Orr really thinks he was wronged, he can report getting shoved to the police and/or file a civil action and it'll all get worked out in the legal system.  The whole story can come out that way.  It's not a basketball event for which Smart should be getting basketball-punished for.

Smart will also now face consequences one way or the other in the free market.

Interesting story on how the "go back to Africa" statement got around the inernet...

That's thanks to BlackSportsOnline, LostLettermen, and ESPN SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott, all of whom have pushed the story. It starts with WDAF in Kansas City, which tweeted out the following at 1:30 a.m. EST Sunday morning:

We haven't done the total CSI type analysis, but it appears this is what TTech superfan Jeff Orr says to Marcus Smart: "go back to ------".

Kansas City is 700 miles from Lubbock, and WDAF's own newscast only reported the secondhand claim that Smart accused Orr of calling him a "n-word." The WDAF tweet is simply amateur lipreading off ESPN's video. Here's where the game of Internet Telephone begins, and we've highlighted the tweets we believe warped one local sports guy's opinion into "fact":

A lot of fans feel like they have this imaginary line where they can say whatever they want to players, without any consequences. It's bullshit. You wanna be a big boy, crap talker? Fine, but I'm going to laugh my ass off when you get mushed in your fat, bigoted face.

If allegations coming out of Lubbock are true, perhaps Oklahoma State star Marcus Smart can’t be blamed for shoving Texas Tech fan Jeff Orr at the end of Saturday’s game.

Toward the end of the Red Raiders’ win, Orr is rumored to have screamed at Smart, “Go back to Africa,” which prompted Smart’s shove and technical foul.

Gottlieb seems to have Smart's back

Quote
Doug Gottlieb @GottliebShow
Smart went from 'dead or in jail' to Oklahoma State's selfless general usat.ly/10reR3S -- Read back story on Marcus Smart

I like Gottlieb a bunch, so I am inclined to take Smart's side in this, if there are "sides" to be taken.

Like, if you ever find yourself in your 50's and your main form of entertainment is following a shitty basketball program around and antagonizing 19 year old's with your terrible hag wife, it may be time to just check out.

Yeah, you can't excuse the shove, but this interaction says a lot more about Mr. Orr than it does about Marcus Smart.

Also, some team is gonna get Smart at a good value. (although I've never really been sold that his game would translate well to the NBA.)

He's a point guard who can't shoot, doesn't have excellent handle, nor hasn't shown himself adept at setting up his teammates. His perceived draft stock is one of life's great mysteries.

I completely agree with this sentiment.

I don't think he will be a star in the NBA or even a starter but I think he is someone who could run a second unit well.  That for me would probably be good enough to take him somewhere just outside the lottery, which is where I would expect to see him after this season.

5000-15000 fans scream horrific crap at college bballers during warmups all game and on the way off the court every day of the season. WGAF what Orr said.  Smart left the court and went after a fan. That is outrageous and punishable.

Getting violent with a fan should have much more than a 1 game suspension mir, I don't know how you can think that.

(I would never let the fan back in either)

We don't have the same standard of what constitutes violence. Also even if the guy said "go back to Africa" I wouldn't givehim a llifetime ban. I refuse to allow ESPN's overreaction cloud my good sense.

The ESPN/sportswriter high horse fallout is much worse than what the idiot fan or Smart did on the floor last night.

i have heard zero from espn on this.  i saw it because espn cut into sports center live with the game while at the bar.

and mir, how would you react if a fan come onto the floor a shoved a player?  that fan would be arrested immediately and charged with trespassing and possibly some sort of assault. there is an unspoken agreement in sports that the players have the court/field and the fans have the stands.  what smart did was extremely dangerous for him and his team.  there's a good chance that if this didn't happen at the most/second most apathetic fan base in the big 12 that something terrible might have happened.

LOL at rough ridin' deadspin. Let's just single out them and not deadspin which had a post on it too... or twitter itself. jfc.

also, in the gif i saw, it looks like the guys is backing down or saying sorry. I haven't seen the full one yet.
