I'm sure it has been discussed at nauseum before, but what is better for the team going forward.  An NIT championship or a loss in the second round of the NCAA?

Losing in one of the play-in games of the NCAA would be better than not making the NCAA and winning the NIT.

No
Yes. Without question.

No

Would rather win the NIT than lose a play in game by a million times.

Wanting to win the NIT over being in the NCAA Tourney is pretty dumbassery logic. But hey, we're all entitled to our own opinions.

I'll take post season home games, winning 5 in a row, playing in Madison Square Garden and winning a trophy over a play in game loss to Boise St. I don't find it that dumbassery.

Ugh. I like to travel to the games. Maybe you'd like the home games cause it's right there for you. Which I understand, I guess. However, on a national stage, no one gives two craps about the NIT winner. There's a special kind of magic spark that comes in me come March when I see my team on the bracket. It means anything could happen and that's exciting for me. I could give two craps less about beating some pud teams at home, in a half pak'd f00d.

I guess I like winning more than seeing "Kansas State" on my bracket. And yea, traveling to Pittsburgh to see us lose opening round sounds super fun.

We beat Southern Miss first round, I partied the whole day off, and watched us lose to Syracuse the next day (sitting next to JO's mom) and was around all the JAMSam drama. I made $ on the trip selling extra tickets purchased and given by Cassidy. It was a blast. I also ran into felixrex. That would have never happened in the NIT.  :D

Also, staying relevant in the NCAA tourney scene has to be a lot better for a program when it comes to recruiting.

Do you think winning the NIT would benefit this young team more than an opening round NCAA loss?

Also the question was posed as losing in a play in game vs winning the NIT. If it was simply play in game vs NIT then you might have an argument.

NIT bids shouldn't even be accepted.  We lose money on them, and they do not help recruiting.

we should accept them only if we get to play home games and then just pull out as soon as we've played our home games and have to go on the road.

like we win our first one at home but then have to go play somewhere else and we tell them we quit. then when the NIT people call and tell us we can't quit we just say, "my team is on the floor" and hang up.

OK, but they have to sell booze at the NIT home games.

The people who would rather win the NIT have the same mentality as those who would rather beat some crappy team in a worthless bowl game than lose to a good team in the Cotton Bowl.

5, 10, 15 years down the road, no one remembers if you lost first round or second round, but they certainly will know you made the NCAA's that year. No one cares about winning some exhibition NIT dumpster fire.
