That's a great program, Ski Be. Pretty jealous over here in the WonderMeal house.

If you're in the mood to explore more Soviet music, check out these super intense Soviet marches:

They're no J.P. Souza, that's for sure, but they are very cool.

Guys....

When Lola Astanova walked out it was like every person in the audience turned into GPC'ers the day the swimsuit issue comes out.

Total schwing-ville. Just crushed the concerto while wearing this insane sparkly ball gown thing. Everyone was completely transfixed. No one could look away. What an evening.   :Wha:   :combofan:

Last piece was totally anticlimactic, btw. Very boring by comparison. Usually I am a huge Rimsky-Korsakov guy, but wowzers. That one put everyone to sleep.

finally got to see the kauffman center last night, helzberg hall. washburn university symphony performed Mozart's Requiem in D Minor and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

it's famous, but here you go:

i'm a sucker for Lacrimosa

I'm jealous. I love it so much that I painstakingly taught myself how to play Lacrimosa on the ole' piano (I'm not a pianist).

Never apologize for liking a famous piece of classical music, you helzber-going stud. Popular classical music pieces that are still popular have stood the test of time often for 3+ centuries so you know they are legit.

2) Finlandia by Sibelius. Not only does this guy basically have the name of a former KS governor, he's also basically the LHC Bill Snyder of Finland. This piece is boss.

I played this for the family on Father's Day because my 80-something year old grandpa has a Finnish girlfriend. She is really awful about talking constantly and I wanted her to be quiet but also thought it would be a nice thing to show her a thing that my friend WonderMeal showed me. Best moment of the weekend, she was transfixed except to wipe tears from start to finish(eff). At the end she stood up and to attention the way Finns apparently do after the playing of their national anthem. It was a good gE moment for me and the bubbleses.

 :Rusty:

bubbs! That is beautiful. Sorry I missed it originally.

I've listened to a few pretty great violin pieces recently, but I don't remember them offhand. I'll try to find them again and post them here.

In the meantime, here is a link to Chopin's Scherzo in B Minor:

It's amazing to me that the human brain can make fingers move that fast.

oh the second part of that was so beautiful it hurt. ugh.

did you know that chopin only gave 30 or so performances in his life? can you imagine having a true understanding of his work and seeing his sickly ass play that music? we can't make comparisons because we can record these things. what if whitney houston came to your fourth of july barbie and sang the SSB and IWALY but no iphones were allowed. my god.
