Yeah, because who doesn't love having to zoom in all the time and hope that they tapped the right link, not the one next to it?  With the latest version of tapatalk the only disadvantage I can think of is having to remember what all the emoticons look like.

do you get anything on the "Notifications" tab within tapatalk?  that's all it does for mine (iPhone), even though i have full notifications set up.  quoted replies alert me properly but not @'s

Nope...only notifications are from quoted replies.
