crazy that we have a good defense.

Yeah, very weird.  But I really like it.  I mean it's my 2nd favorite thing for a football team to be good at.

#1 being special teams??

Upset Special: Kansas State (+3.5) at West Virginia
K-State’s defense is pretty darn good. Here’s a chance for LHC Bill Snyder’s team to catch the Mountaineers at the right time coming off the BYU game in Maryland.

Pick: Kansas State 24, West Virginia 23

That should go in the "chip on your shoulder"  thread with us only winning by 1.

Seems like a lot of "pickers" are liking K-State this weekend....

Buddy of mine subscribes to "Winning Points" and this is their take on the WVU game:

BEST BET:
KANSAS STATE over WEST VIRGINIA
We did not quite get the “dream sequence” for this one, which would have been the Mountaineers keeping the back-door closed vs. BYU last week, but it still brings LHC Bill Snyder as an underdog vs Dana Holgorsen, and that has been impossible for us to pass up in the past. It will also be something that we are not going to refuse any time soon. These coaches have met four times since West Virginia joined the Big 12, a 4-0 SU and ATS sweep by Snyder’s Wildcats, beating the spread by 70 points in the process, and in three of those games K-State was the underdog. There are two prime elements in play that have not changed, so no shock if there is a scoreboard result that many will call an "upset" again, though it really isn’t. First is the basic fundamental soundness, with the Wildcats once again fielding a team that is mentally tough and does all of the little things right. The Mountaineers don’t, like the inexcusable give-away on first-and-goal inside the BYU five-yard line, an errant snap that is the sort of thing they do. But add physical toughness to the disparity in football acumen and you have the true story of this series – State wins the trenches. West Virginia has quickness on defense but they lack muscle, and that shows in the inability to stand tough against the run, allowing 5.0 per carry in September. Dual threat Jesse Ertz takes advantage of that to set the tone here, as his Wildcat QB predecessors have done in this series. KANSAS STATE 38-23

That's pretty much how I see this game, except I think our defense is much better than people realize and I haven't been that impressed with WVU's offense. I think we hold them under twenty.

AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl: Texas A&M vs. Kansas State
(9 p.m., ESPN, NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas)
Texas A&M has more talent but limped to the finish, while Kansas State finished strong against mostly weak competition. The game site certainly favors Kevin Sumlin's Aggies, but Kansas State is the more energized and motivated team, and rides its defense to victory. Kansas State 35, Texas A&M 28.

A&M has been gouged on the ground by decent running teams.  LSU was getting over six yards a carry.

Nothing in that assessment was incorrect.  A&M is a better team, but both Baylor and TCU were, statistically, better against the run, and neither of them could stop it.  The Cats have found their groove in the run game.

In games against P5 competition, where they were held to under 75 plays, they're 1-4.  And, for what it's worth, they're #120 in the nation in time of possession.

Which is why with a rested Ertz Dimel will air it out for the loss.

Not so sure. I think the Coaches have seen the ground game come around after the Ostate loss.

The TCU game started with 3 straight passing plays to loosen them up..then it was ground and pound...even without Barnes.

If we end up getting away with more WR picks to open up Pringle won't matter, but we'll still find a way to eff that up.

I'd be interested to see how many of these media members that put us in next season's top 20 will rank us in the final poll tomorrow
