I guess the NBA is even less popular than I originally had thought since no one will answer my rules questions.

I did.  Warning, followed by progression of escalating fines.  Ultimately, Suspension.

The NBA has a pretty nice page for sharing officiating eff ups where they also have videos of flops that recieved warnings. Almost all of them this year have been no-calls.

The NBA rules are awful. The only NBA rule that I would like to see in college is the 24 second shot clock.

NBA rules are the absolute best.  Which is why the NBA is so much more fun to watch than the college game.

Nope. The college game is more fun to watch because Kansas State University is a participant. NBA games are fun, too, because the players are so good. The rules are awful, though.

What rules are awful?

fines for flops, the widened lane, defensive 3 seconds, no one and ones

How on earth could you not like defensive 3 seconds?

In hockey embellishment is a 2 minute penalty and you can be subject to fines and suspension if you are a chronic offender. Players also police their own and it isn't unusual for a diver to get his ass kicked.

I have never seen a team flop as much as the whole poke team did yesterday. Brown practically runs down the floor giving himself wiplash.
Luke's stock is rising as Winters continues to validate his greatness. Add Luke and Winters to my list! Also, EMAWBLAST! and Tobias!

It slows the game down and I really just don't see the point of penalizing a defensive player with a foul just because he isn't guarding somebody. If the offense doesn't have any answer to that, that should be their problem.

It isn't a foul and it doesn't slow the game up, it was enacted to prevent the defense from packing in allowing freedom of offensive movement.  I love it in the NBA it would be disastrous at any other level.

The team is assessed a technical foul and how does stopping to shoot a free throw not slow the game up?

NBA refs are much better than college ones. Surprise surprise.

NBA refs are like a million miles better than college.

Was introduced to hockey recently by a Bruins fan and this was one of his talking points.  Inclined to agree.

Because free throws are a part of the game. Does inbounding the ball, taking time outs, or jumping the ball after tie ups slow the game down too? It is rare to have more than 1 or 2 fts assessed a game for defensive 3 seconds, pretty bizarre to be inconvenienced by one ore two free throws.

It's a technical foul free throw, where the game stops, a player shoots his free throw, and then they run an inbounds play before the clock starts again. Plus, it adds a team foul which will more often than not result in another 2 free throws later in the game. It slows everything down and is miserable to watch. NBA players are good enough to score points without rules that don't exist in basketball at any other level and are only in the NBA to inflate scoring.

DNR most of this thread, but my fav part of Smart's flopping is that Nash and Brown have picked up on it and try to do it to and it is hilarious because they are so much worse at it than Smart.  Brown had two different times where he took the ball on the inbounds took a few dribbles then just whipped his head back when our guard was still like 4' away.  His body didn't change motion at all, just whipped the head back.

Also, Nash keeps over exagerating after his post moves and crying about the no calls and the refs are  :dubious: at him.

Smart is a master at it though.  I mean, it is still obvious, but he ties it to a believable event.

I think this is what was so frustrating about the whole thing. The whole team tries to do it.

Doesn't really matter, though.  Neither brown or nash were successful in flopping into many calls, at least in Sat's game.

Forte could have taken 2-3 charges, but he always tries for some crazy steal at the last minute. And OSU's defensive philosophy seems to be try to block every shot. Of course that worked for 3/4 of the game.

I think he was fading away and the extra contact just tipped him over. Didn't look like he was intentionally trying to grab attention/ be over dramatic.

Confirmed flop. Bad news. I hate watching crap like that, so I hope this doesn't become a regular thing.
