I went to a game in SD in August 2001, his last season. He wasn't playing much by then and didn't start. In the 7th they were down 5-2 with a couple runners on. All of a sudden the place erupted and Gwynn walks into the on deck circle. He went in, took a few pitches, and effortlessly stroked a single into the gap. It just looked very easy for him. He was on a different level hitting to ball.
