God, removing the salary cap would be amazing. We have the money whether people want to believe it or not. Sporting Club is loaded. Not oil money loaded but we'd be a competitor. The league would probably be run by Seattle and NYCFC.

Yea, soccer is one sport where the salary cap hurts the league not helps it, especially on the level worldwide that MLS is. SKC could absolutely stay competative without it.

The league also needs to get rid of at least a few of its drafts. Having an entry draft, expansion draft, dispersal draft, etc is beyond dumb in a league that should be rewarding teams for their player development. Also need to either make all players follow allocation order or do away with it all together.

Meh. All those drafts are what comes with an expanding league. No avoiding it. I agree allocation order should be done away with or always apply.

They actually do protect the player development that is most important when improving the national team because homegrown players are automatically protected.

Dispersal Draft

Erick Torres not available via draft and I'm going to assume all other loanees will be going back to their parent clubs.

Goalkeepers
Dan Kennedy (32 yo)
Trevor Spangenberg (23)

Defenders
Bobby Burling (30)
Carlos Bocanegra - retiring :frown:
Tony Lochhead (32)
Michael Nwiloh (23)
Akira Kaji (34)
Eriq Zavaleta (on loan from Seattle Sounders FC) (22)
Andrew Jean-Baptiste (22)
Donny Toia (22)
Jhon Kennedy Hurtado (30)

Midfielders
Martín Rivero (24)
Matt Dunn (20)
Nigel Reo-Coker (30)
Agustín Pelletieri (32)
Marco Delgado (HGP) (19)
Eric Avila (26)
Thomas McNamara (23)
Marvin Chávez (30)
Nathan Sturgis (27)
Oswaldo Minda (DP) (31)

Forwards
Erick Torres (on loan from Guadalajara; DP) (21)
Luis Bolaños (on loan from LDU Quito) (29)
Leandro Barrera (on loan from Argentinos Juniors) (23)
Ryan Finley (23)
Félix Borja (on loan from LDU Quito) (31)
Kris Tyrpak (22)
Caleb Calvert (HGP) (18)

Players I would consider drafting:

GK - Kennedy - if we lose either Gruenebaum or Kronberg
CB - Jean-Baptiste - if we lose Collin; very young, huge upside
CB - Hurtado - ONLY if we lose Collin AND AJB not available
AM - Delgado - Feilhaber and Medranda are our only attacking midfielders unless you count Zusi; very young, huge upside
AM - McNamara - see above; also could play winger
DM - Sturgis - to be defensive mid depth; can play fullback
ST - Finley - we're going to need strikers; Bieler and/or Dwyer are gone
ST - Calvert - see above; very young, huge upside
AM - Avila - not sure what he would play in our system; winger or attacking mid; doesn't seem to be a great fit; can play fullback
AM - Chávez - decent winger; may have good chemistry with Espinoza/Claros from Honduras :dunno:

Jean-Batiste was the only guy who was on my radar besides Torres, but I am not as deep into the MLS. But AJB has a super bright future in front of him and I want him.

Kennedy is a top half of the league keeper (Andy and Eric aren't). Hurtado is a solid center back whose play style is very similar to Collin's. Delgado is a young stud homegrown who has some USYNT caps. McNamara was the front runner for rookie of the year until he tore his ACL a few months into the season. Sturgis is just a decent player. Finley would just be striker depth behind Cubo or Dom or whatever. Calvert could be great in a few years. Avila isn't a great player, but he's serviceable. Chávez is kinda fast and from Honduras. Possible we lose either Saad or Sapong to the expansion draft.

Feilhaber says there's been improvement with his ankle. He put his chances at 50-50 to play Thursday.

Talk salary cap with me.  How does it help the league to allow free spending?  I'm assuming we could see a quick movement of players for high money to a few teams. I kinda like the designated player rule, maybe expand that?

It wouldn't. It would allow more big names to be lured over in the prime of their careers to a very small select group of teams but it would hurt the development of young homegrown talent.
