Matt Besler was just named to Goal.com's list of 50 best players in the world for 2014. He and Tim Cahill are the only 2 MLS players.

little out of date now (spring 2013), but http://www.recklesschallenge.net/designated-player-myths-and-realities/ has some interesting stats on DPs.

In 2007 (first year of DP’s), average age was 32 years 4 months.
In 2008, the average age of DP’s signed was 32 years 6 months.
In 2009, it dropped drastically to 24 years 9 months (Fredy Montero was 21, Luis Ángel Landín was 24, and Julian de Guzman was the old man at 28).
In 2010, the average age was 30 years and 2 months.
In 2011, the average age was 27 years and 11 months.
In 2012, the average age was 29 years and 11 months.
Thus far in 2013, the average is 26 years and 9 months.
The country with the most DP’s is Argentina, with 10. Brazil is second with 6, and Colombia and Mexico are tied for third with 5.
The US has had 4 DP’s – Landon Donovan, Freddy Adu, Claudio Reyna, and Chris Wondolowski.

i haven't cross-referenced clams' dossier yet for true numbers, but there's definitely a european vs everywhere else slant on DP age. too lazy to do the math right now
