Half marathon next weekend. Then back to back half marathon four weeks later. Road half on Saturday. Trail half on Sunday. Full marathon in November. Will be spending most of the summer in the woods.

How many pairs of shoes do you go through? Also what do you buy?
I buy a new pair of road shoes every five to six months. Keep three or four in rotation. I only have two pairs of trail shoes. I'm usually only on the trail one day a week except the summer and early autumn. Plus, I don't always need a technical shoe.

I wear Altra brand. Two on the left are for trails - both Lone Peak. Next four are road shoes - Torin, Instinct, Instinct, One. Just bought the Torin yesterday and retired a pair of Instinct.

That makes sense keeping a rotation going.  I don’t run much anymore but probably should have done that when I did.  I should probably get some new trail shoes, planning on doing some walking hiking this summer/fall.

I like to hike in the Lone Peak. They have a rock plate and are fairly lightweight.

The Altras are quality. I can't wear them, though, as I'm not a fan of THAT much room for splay in the toes. Every Altra I've tried on has been known for that huge toe box, which lots of people love. Just something for those not aware to be informed of.

I'm on my second pair of Topo Terraventures, may be switching to Hydroventures soon, for the waterproof aspect. I spend 90% of my run time on trails, and often muddy/puddle ridden ones.

Just my 2 cents, fwiw.

Yep. All in how you like the fit. I love a loose toe box and tight heel. Can't stand a snug fit on my toes.

Topos are on the list of alternate of Altra ever takes a dump. Topo has some wide toe box models.

I run in Altras as well.  I could never give up the big toe box now after wearing them for years.  I even wear their casual shoes for work.

For road, I have the Escalante and just picked up a pair Kayenta to replace the OneV3.  For trail, I mostly use Lone Peak but also have the King MT for winter in snow, ice, and sloppy conditions.

Good luck with all those halfs.  Back to back sounds killer.  Trail or road marathon in Nov?

Running the Prairie Spirit Trail 100 next week. I'm running the 100k, not the 100 miler. First distance longer than a marathon.

http://www.prairiespirit100.com/

Any 'Cat fans out there want to join my pacing team for a v v v slow last 50k? Run is from Ottawa to Welda and back. It's going to be beautiful--there are going to be so many silos and morton buildings and stuff.

100k!!! If I lived nearby I would definitely help pace.  Come back and tell us how it goes.

I’ve wanted to take the next step to something longer but have chickened out so far.  Signed up for another trail 50k in the fall.  Still trying to decide on a summer race.

Will be road marathon. Route 66 in Tulsa.

Half this weekend is being used as a long training run. Too close to my double weekend to press the pace.

Back to back half marathons completed. I'm whipped.

Decided about Mile 8 that I'll do it again next year. Really enjoyed the challenge.

Lol jk started training this week.  Have been a casual runner for a long time, 3-5 miles per day 4-6 days per week.  Then was sitting on the couch like “I need something else in my life right now because PXIIAD is a long way off.   let’s google marathons ok this looks good ***click***.”

Now that reality has set in, I’m doing the Jerry Seinfeld “I think I may have made a big mistake.”  But I bought a plane ticket and a new pair of shoes so there’s no going back now

Just go for it and have fun.  If you have to walk some, so be it.  If you don’t finish, who cares.  Drink some beers after and get some bonkers sleep.

And pic from my run this morning.  Feet were freezing.

Run
Smile
Drink water
Don't die

That last one will feel like a real challenge about Mile 22. Keep pushing.
