When was the last time Nebraska was relevant in football?
« on: December 08, 2013, 09:00:45 AM »
My dad tells me that Nebraska was kind of good when he was younger. They have been pretty shitty for as far back as I remember. Remember when they were in our conference? They stunk. Now they stink in the Big 10 and it's a much more sucky conference than ours. I don't remember them ever winning our conference in the modern era and they haven't been close to winning the garbage Big 10. Just seem like a team that the game has passed by. Maybe facing a team like ours (modern football, advanced playbook, tough, disciplined, etc.) will give them something to blueprint their own program by?

My dad said the same thing.  They used to be good.  Now they are just the team with the insane coach who peed in his pants that one time.

Hey steve dave!! Well I just asked my dad and he laughed said something about some guy named Tom Oswald and said they were pretty above average when she was there. I then asked Siri on my iPhone 5c the same question. She said 1976? I don't know how accurate she is though.

Real secondary question: do they compete for conference titles at all? I know we are apoiled being in the running almost every year, but do they even sniff conference trophies?

Tia for the answer.

The beatdowns by Texas ran them off. Can't blame them...

Great Uncle John still talks about the time Frank won their last conference title in '99.  Who was even President back then, Carter?

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Trick question, they have never been relevant.

Guys, they are a basketball school.  They beat the hell out of Illinois like a year or two after they made an appearance in the NC game right in the midst of Illinois' power run.

As for FB, it seems like they have kinda turned into a less respectable version of reality TV.  Outrageous antics and huge amts of low brow get-r-done type football.

Very happy that we asked them to leave the conference before it got too bad.

Before the turn of the century, they were really great.  You guys need to study your history better.

Army, Navy, and Princeton were dominant too.  Most of you probably don't even know that.

Seriously, study the history of the game, guys.  Just because a team hasn't been good in your lifetime, doesn't mean they don't have a rich tradition.

The worst part about potentially playing them is that the BWW Bowl is a big deal for their school. Let's face it, our guys won't be up for this game. Our players are used to playing in BCS Bowls and Cotton Bowls. I bet Bill doesn't even do bowl prep. Probably just sits the seniors aside and starts scheming for next season. Meanwhile, this is Pelini's super bowl.

That's what my dad was telling me Pete. In the early days of our conference they were right up there.

I don't mind an easy win.  In fact, I'd prefer it.  NU as a bowl opponent is fine by me, though part of me wishes it was a higher profile opponent, like Wisconsin.

Doing some research on their history I found this. Look how good they used to recruit

Ten players in Nebraska’s class are ranked in the top 10 at their respective position, including four Parade All-Americans and seven players who participated in the U.S. Army All-America Game.

Yep.  They used to give OU a run for their money way back then.   If you go look at the history, you will see that they had pretty good run there before we added the Texas schools.

Didn't they run the Wishbone offense or something like that?  Wishbone?  The eff is that anyway?
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

One or two yrs of fluke.  that is what happens when you trick(blackmail?) a real NFL quality coach into coaching for your team.  Real recognizes real.  I am sure they got a one to two year rise of talent thanks to their HOF coach Callahan.

They were really good, but the invention of the forward pass just decimated their program
