They could have extended it, maybe not 5 years but you really don't think they could have come up w/ new plot lines?

the creators were given a certain # of episodes to complete the series.  they had to wrap it up using that fixed number and couldn't just start arbitrarily extending the # of shows remaining.

the show ended when it should.  dragging it out another few years would have ruined it the way Heroes was ruined.

Yes we all know they were given a certain # of shows. That still doesn't  mean that hypothetically they couldn't have gone on doing awesome things for another season or two. I'm just going to miss it. Was pretty much the only show I had to watch religiously.

Yes I realize that but still a cop out.  If this were the case when did they die?  Why did they need to be together to move on?  Who was Desmond and why was he the one who needed to bring them together?  What happened to Michael, Daniel Fariday (Widmore?) Didn't he die on the island (really can't remember.)  And How come Hurley isn't protecting the island how did he die and Ben just decided he wasn't dead?  I'm so confussed.

You obviously didn't pay attention to the ending.
I did pay attention and It was a lame and lazy explination and If I was Jack and my dead dad explained it that way to me I would kick him in his dead nuts.  Just plain lazy on the writers parts I'm with Daris just keep adding stuff for afew more seasons.

I guess I don't feel that the answers were good enough I don't let the first explaination be enough they need more.  Just saying you are dead and everything happened is not enough.

just because there was some stupid show that started sucking doesn't mean that lost would've. also, even if it did start sucking after another year or two, at least there would've been another good year or two.

also, those last two episodes were pretty bad from a comparative standpoint. too hurried and way too treacly. almost the opposite of the other 100 or so episodes. it was like "hey, let's make this crazy adventure full of mystery and death and just amazing depth for five years and then we'll just gift wrap a bag of sugar, sit in on the doorstep, ring the doorbell and hide for the last two episodes" :flush:

methinks you missed the point of the ending/series as a whole.  It was about love/redemption/relationships/forgiveness.

When did they die?

Christian said they all died at different times. There is no real time in the afterlife. They didn't all just suddenly die and end up at the church. This means Hurley could have died 1,000 years after Jack.

Why did they need to be together to move on?

This is a pretty minimal thing to worry about, but Christian also said it's a catalyst to remember the best times of your life before you move on.

Why Desmond?

He was the first to recall his life. I doubt it had any significance behind it.

Where's Michael?

Do you seriously think Hugo and Libby would consider Michael one of the best parts of their lives? Come on man.

Where's Daniel?

Desmond didn't want to take him because he wanted him to spend time with his mother. Eloise obviously knew what was going on and is spending time with her son before moving on.

Why isn't Hurley on the island?

Who knows? This happens so far down the road from Jack dying. It's another story completely. Time is irrelevant in the afterlife.

Not. That. Complicated.

Lost was a great tv show.  Some of you were looking for too much.  In the beginning Lost used great characters thrown together in crazy relationships to tell a ridiculous story.  In the end that ridiculous story reintroduced us to those great characters through more crazy relationships.  Along the way there were plenty of twists and turns and for the most part it was wildly entertaining.  Don't make it more than it was, the writers never meant it to be.  But like many very creative entertainment ideas, people throw all kinds of crazy assumptions into what the writers meant, when for the most part they were just making an entertaining tv show that was a lot of fun to watch.  The makers of Lost were extremely successful in doing just that.  JMHO.

agree w/ simmons that they explained too much.  he compares it to a scooby doo ending where they have to spell it out to everyone at the end instead of leaving it up to your imagination.  also agree the ending was kind of lame but the first 90% of the finale was incred.

I didn't really mind the ending.  IMO, the only lame part was the scene where Jack goes back to where the coffin was....it looked like they included like every single symbol from every single religion/philosophy out there so as not to piss someone off (I get it, I mean, they wanted people to get that "where" they are at is wherever your spiritual preference puts them, but IMO, if you caught that you wouldn't have needed to see those symbols to get that).  Christian's explanation was good, I thought, even though it kind of spelled it out.  I think Jack (much like most of the audience) needed to hear it.  They could have done some vague'r dialogue, but if you're Jack, those questions (and answers) were suitable for that moment.

I just don't see how, after some reflection, people can't appreciate or see the parallels to real life that this show presented.  They're quite profound and compelling.

i guess people would have freaked out if they thought they were dead from season 1 episode 1.  so they had to have Christian explain that wasn't the case.

the flash sideways (purgatory) is freaking me out.

yes.  hell, even now if you read some of the LOST messageboards, people still think that they were dead from the beginning.

the flash sideways (purgatory) is freaking me out.

why?

[/quote]

not sure.  just trying to think it through.  not knowing you are dead maybe ...

also questioning whether it's Jack's purgatory or everyone's purgatory?  seems more like a POV of Jack's. but then you have whole shows where Jack isn't even involved.  thinking now that it's more everyone's purgatory but Jack being the mainest of main characters and the doubtiest of doubters gets it all 'splained to him by his dad.
