the glowy thing in the cave was really cool.  do you think dez would have died had he put the plug back in the light?  not sure why Jack didn't let him do it.  would have been cooler if jack turned into smoke monster part deux. but instead of being a bad smokey, Jack would be a good smokie.  maybe only bad people turn into smokey???

i'm with Phreak on the Locke/Jack fight.  needed to be more epic.  something like a fight all the way across the island.  Jack should have gone to take the plug out of the island, turned into smoke monster part deux and had a fight which tore the island apart.
Dez couldn't have put the plug back in, he was wiped out from the electromagnetism and had a family.  I really thought Jack might end up as a white smoke monster, would have totally fit with the white and black stones from that game Jacob and MIB played. Epic black smoke/white smoke battle would have ensued.

Question, Jack didn't say any incantation when he gave Hurley the water. Why?

Didn't think I would, but I enjoyed the hell out of the finale.  While watching the episode I wasn't thinking about all the mysteries and stuff (though I always considered "the island" as a character and wished it, along with more of the mysteries, would have gotten more resolution/explanation).  I thought the finale kind of tied up everything from seasons 1, 5 and 6.  The in between stuff will be left for the DVD's. I liked that there was a happy ending, without the avoidance of death.  Really liked Jack's "see you in anohter life, brotha" to Des.  Almost shed a tear.

I thought very similarly to this.

I liked the fact that it was an unorthodox happy ending.  You weren't sad when Jack died, and there was excellent symmetry to it.

It was open-ended enough that you could imagine whatever possibility you wanted when they light started to envelop the church, but at the same time, there was enough resolution there that you thought, "Yeah, I can deal with that."

Second best series finale I've ever seen.  It didn't send the show out with a bang, but it brought it to resolution without tarnishing the series (like the Sopranos or Seinfeld) or seeming like a bad reunion show (i.e. Cheers, M*A*S*H).

What was the best series finale in your opinion??

Also, i never understood why people didn't like the Seinfeld ending. It fit the series perfect. Just random B.S. with no importance. I dunno, jmo.
Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

The new Battlestar Galactica.

Yes, I know that makes me a nerd.  However, how they ended it and somehow found a way to cleverly mix it into modern day life was just perfect.  It was actually a clever ending that fit the overall philosophical theme of the show.

Obvious the writers had no clue what to do, threw their hands up and said... "Screw the fans... they're dead."

Also found it sickening how obviously racist these writers are.  Black guys don't go to heaven but Iraqi torture soldiers do.  :opcat:

I was not  a big fan of the finale.  Did not get what I wanted out of the island and being dead was a cop out in my opinion.  Did not like it one bit.  But Over all the show was great and I won't complain maybe I will look for the DVD.

You realize that they were just dead in the flash sideways, right? It's not like nothing on the island ever happened or anything.

Yes I realize that but still a cop out.  If this were the case when did they die?  Why did they need to be together to move on?  Who was Desmond and why was he the one who needed to bring them together?  What happened to Michael, Daniel Fariday (Widmore?) Didn't he die on the island (really can't remember.)  And How come Hurley isn't protecting the island how did he die and Ben just decided he wasn't dead?  I'm so confussed.

Glad I never watched a single episode of this garbage show. How does it feel losers to invest 6 years into this crap show just to have the writers take a steaming dump on your head and expect you to like it?

Also found it sickening how obviously racist these writers are.  Black guys don't go to heaven but Iraqi torture soldiers do.  :opcat:

Michael stated that his soul was stuck on the island because of killing libby and anna lucia (they should neutralize each other), hence he wasn't at the church to move on.  Daniel, Miles, Charlotte, Lapidus, Richard, etc weren't enough of the group to be there I guess. They didn't have enough connection with the original lostees to be in the mix, unlike ben and juliette.

As I've thought about it more, i've switched from completely hating the ending and feeling cheated, to accepting it and understanding it.

Jack's dad said that the group included who it did because the time they spent together was "the most important of their life".  Obviously that means that Daniel, Miles, Charlotte, Lapidus, Walt, ect didn't have "the most important part of their life" take place on the island.

Fully agree.  I loved it.

Lost and Soprano's are easily my fav shows to come on in my life time.

Lost is going to leave a gaping void in network programming.

I'll finish this up by saying that the producers wrote themselves into a hole years ago when they said they knew how the series would end from the very beginning.

A lot of times, especially when you write for a series with an indefinite end date (as it was in the beginning), you have to break your own story line and come up with filler to extend the life of the show.  In that amount of time, you come up with new ideas, create new characters, or extend the lives of ones you weren't going to use (i.e. Ben) because they worked so well.  The story, as all good ones do, take on a life of their own.  In a way, they tell themselves and the writers just kind of jot it down.

When you come up with this initial idea, a lot of times, it's just a series of images in your head.  You think about this really great or clever scene, and you say, "Man, I have to use that."  So, instead of actually following the story, you write around those scenes to jam them in there.

The writers were essentially given 36 episodes after the end of season four to wrap this thing up.  The problem is that they created so much content in the canon in the first four seasons that they couldn't possibly wrap it all up without changing the entire focus of the show, and they weren't going to break the dual-story formula.  Therefore, they had to find a way to make it work, and as a result, they probably left more on the cutting room floor than they wanted to because they had, literally, dozens of characters that needed some form of resolution, and they still had to tell the story of Jacob and the MIB.

I get where the writers thought that this abbreviated season was liberating, but in reality, there was so much momentum and content in the first four seasons that they needed to be the standard 22-24 episode seasons just like the first three.  Another 8-12 episodes would have allowed them to spend more time exploring the island's roots, delve deeper into the Jacob/MIB connection, and spend more time developing the flash sideways universe.  Heck, even an additional four episodes may have done the trick.

I think that this would have been a very tight, clean finale if the producers went to ABC and said, "This is a 6 season show with X number of episodes.  No questions."  The fact that they were so methodical and precise in the first four seasons created a major problem in 5 and 6 because there was just too much to clean up in 36 episodes, and it was kind of seen in how rushed the series was at the end.
