Alabama had 25,000 students when he got there, and 80% of them were instate students.  Now Alabama has 40,000 students and 60% of them are out-of-state students. The biggest student recruiting weekends are football weekends.

Just in core tuition dollars (before fees and other charges) that's $22,000 more per student per academic year for every out-of-state.

No doubt that it was a huge economic benefit for the University.  Probably a horrible decision for many of those kids to pay that much for an Alabama degree when almost all of them could have gotten just as good of an education for a fraction of the cost if they had stayed in-state.

Well I bet most of those out of state kids are from Florida and Mississippi, so maybe not.

Clearly you haven't heard about the great things DeSantis is doing with the school in Florida...

Let's keep this out of the pit please (for those of us who don't go in there)

Having said that, not sure I'd be bragging about an Alabama education when there are 3 other SEC schools alone that are in a swinging-dead-cat-radius of Tuscaloosa where no one questions the undergrad's ability to read.

They should probably hire someone that they fully expect to fire within 3 years and just get the "can't follow Saban" thing over with as quickly and as cheaply as possible.

What is the chance this + Jim Harbaugh probably going back to the NFL dominoes to Klieman or Liepold taking a different job?

I imagine there aren't too many guys in decent job situations that are itching to follow up what Saban did.

It would be like that Soutpark episode where Stan uses ChatGPT to respond to Wendy's texts and be a kind, understanding boyfriend.

I always see people say stuff like this, but I don't think football coaches are wired this way

Offer Kirby Smart $20 million and force him to say no. Then, Georgia will need to give him something close to that, which means they'll be using that $10 million on Kirby when they could have used it elsewhere.

Then, offer another proven guy $10-12 million and take whoever you want because the vast majority of these coaches have outsized egos that won't let them think they can't achieve something close to what Saban did given the resources Bama has.

ESPN says it’s down to Washington’s guy, FSU’s guy, and their current OC.

If Alabama takes Washington’s guy and somehow the Washington OC goes along to Bama (apparently bama tried to get him this past offseason) instead of Washington promoting him, then both Liepold and Kleinman fit the mold that Washington seems to like.

there’s zero chance that klieman goes anywhere and I don’t think LL Lame Ass goes anywhere either.

Thinking any coach who is swimming in the pool of candidates won't take a 30% raise because Saban was so successful is dumb af.  They can pick almost whoever they want.

And I can't imagine Smart wanting it too, he's got his own thing now at Georgia.

the expectations are so extraordinary high that the chance that anyone can come in and meet them is essentially zero

their best option is to hire from within, take a step back for a year or two, and then shop the market.  good news is that saban has proven that you can recruit to a shithole like tuscaloosa.

Leaking the three finalists - one of whom being incredibly underwhelming - is certainly an interesting move.

Location is never an issue if you got a right coach and the right system for a player to go to.

Saban was a far better coach than Snyder. Going to be impossible to replace. you're right they should either hire from within or do someone young with a lot of charisma and high potential like Marcus Freeman
