Guys, are there any successful strategies in getting kids in and out of lawrence without them becoming hooked on drugs? I ask because my two kids want to go to a game that is quiet enough for them to ask questions during the game about rules and what not and I thought this game in Lawrence would be ideally quiet. That said, I can teach them about football in front of my embarrassingly nice TV without all the Oxy floating around them if it just isn't doable with out having to follow up with a family trip to rehab.
Thoughts?
first off, thanks for being a great dad CNS. next, i believe that you will be able to find a fairly isolated location in the stadium, perhaps even a "section" all to you and your family. that should make it a bit easier to educate your children and and keep the "drug culture" at least out of sight for a while. the drive into town should be fine, and hopefully since KU plays games very early in the morning, all the drunk drivers will be "sleeping one off". the walk from your car to the stadium is probably the biggest obstacle. the residences and campus surrounding the stadium are all known "drug dens" where illegal activity and HIV are rampant. i believe an involved father such as yourself can use this as a teaching tool though, and warn your kids early about the dangers of "dope weed" and "angel crack". be safe, keep a vigilant eye, and don't accept any liquid drinks from any strangers (they have been known to spike all sorts of innocent beverages with some sort of "raping" drug).
best of luck CNS, and hug your kids just a little closer after the trip is done
