My KU friends really think Mangino would be amazing at K-State. The talking point I always bring up is, what's the best conference win he ever had?

More BCS wins than Snyder is usually the talking point I hear.

We have to fire him and hire a real head coach.  Petrino riding around campus with two hotties on his Harley and winning a conference game is a quantum leap ahead.

Chaz Bono-Frontbutt cannot coach football.  He may have been able to say the right things to QBs to get them to play better, we don't really know if this is the case because you're talking about one QB who was already good and one who remains a journeyman who sucks, just like his mentor.  For the last decade, KU has insisted on coaches who are either fat or massively stupid.  The people selecting these coaches come from NON-FOOTBALL backgrounds...Perkins and now Zenger.

BGL needs to put down her favorite Maya Angelou book and either hire a new AD who knows football or GTFO of Lawrence.  We need proven business leadership running KU, not facking poetry majors like Hemenway and certainly not someone who identifies herself as a Tarhole first, who happens to work at KU.  We're not out of the woods with conference realignment.  Each and every IDIOT decision by the NCAA pushes them towards the abyss, with the major conferences (big 10, SEC, PAC12) calling the shots and the best teams of the ACC and BigXII hoping to land somewhere else.  We need to be relevant in football.  That means flirting with the Top 25 at least every other year.  We need to go bowling.  We need a stadium that reflects the 21st Century. Allen Field House is special because KU wins massive inside its walls, not because it's old.

WTF is so wrong with KU's leadership that they can't see the obvious?

After yesterdays game I felt like I had been kicked ing the stomach. Week after week of bad play and what seems as lack of in game leadership. It's time to burn this stadium to the ground. Blow it up and build a new. On a personal note or request I would like seats instead of benches please. Anyway I'm sure there is no way total destruction happens. I'm just looking for something to give me/us hope for the future.

The only logic I can come up with is that it would've been quite a bit cheaper

I was wondering if we can do like Notre Dame does. Play Big 12 basketball and MIAA football. We could schedule Pitt State, Fort Hays and Washburn.

Zenger probably wasn't a wise selection either. Seemingly the guy was gaga over Weis. Even my wife who knows nothing about football but is a pretty good judge of character could sense that Weis was a poor selection.

OSU fans rubbing it in :(

Quote
OSU got up by 21 points, and as I predicted, took its foot off the pedal. Here are two quotes (first from HC Gundy and second from OC Yurcich):

GUNDY: “We were pretty vanilla,” Gundy said. “We felt comfortable with our defense and their ability to play well today. We weren’t as wide open as we would normally be on other Saturdays.”

YURCICH “We were pretty vanilla, there wasn’t anything too exotic,” offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said. “We knew we just had to secure the ball and do what we do.”

In other words, we were just trying to win, and get out of the game with no more injuries other than Stewart. After all, Texas, Baylor and Oklahoma are up next. All we really needed was the win.

They have resorted to actively rooting for their coach publicly humiliate a player. What a sick sick person.

Quote
At some point I want a coach with a little emotion on the sideline.  Gill was a Zombie and I haven't seen any emotion out of Weiss.  At some point the coaching staff and the players have to break.  I want to see an argument on the sideline, a player telling Weiss the play calling sucks, someone in someone's face.  Anything.  Just some emotion.

Yeah....a new stadium....that'll fix everything!  Also, seats instead of benches???  This is why ku football is in the shitter.  People are bitching about sitting on a bench.  And isn't Allen all bench seats??  No one is complaining about that.

How about twice as much money as Northwestern could ever muster to keep him.

Northwestern doesn't have the budget that KU has.

What about Kelly? I think he's done with NFL after next year, potentially. We'll see.

Why would anybody want to be a head coach at a career killing football program like KU? I mean, that's what you get when you fire a national coach of the year winner (and OC of a national champion) for being fat and yelling and (gasp) losing some games!

Anyway, I don't believe that coaches can just turn things around immediately with the likes of what Terry Allen left, or what Gill left. It takes time.

Coaches don't coach for money; they coach to win and be part of winning and THEN getting money. We need to show prospective coaches that we're not idiotic, that we care about football, that we actually know about something besides basketball. None of this has actually happened just yet.

There is a reason blue blood basketball schools suck at football - the vast majority of the fans do not understand how difficult it is to build a football team. Give 'em a year or two, maybe three, and if they are not winning regularly, show em the door. Hire new coach (after other, more patient teams have sewn up the recruiting), repeat cycle.

Someone in another post said how dead this board is - I agree. But it is better than having a bunch of nattering naybobs on here running down the coaches, the team, and, probably, running off the recruits.

At least there's basketball.

Its our fault they are bad

Quote
I agree, the average fan "wants" a good team ( or, more accurately, one that doesn't embarrass them, at least). They just don't understand that football is about 20x more complex than basketball. It takes a brilliant coach (Snyder) 2-3 years to implement a system and get his players, playing together and implementing his system. It takes a good coach (Weis) 4-5 years to do the same. The chances of the next Snyder coming to Lawrence (and staying), are slim and none. That leaves us with a coaching merry-go-round.

Snyder has screwed KU in so many ways. Fans look up the road and see what he has done, and demand the same here. He is lightening in a bottle - an incredible coach who has transformed the worst team in the nation into something much, much better. He did it rather quickly and has sustained it for the better part of 20 years.

KU, on the other hand, will probably fire Weis in the next year or two, and bring in a new coach who will demand a guaranteed, iron clad contract, because he will know that the demands of the fans/ admin can't be met, and he will be thrown into the coaching graveyard in 2-3 years. A near certain recipe for failure in Big 12 football.

Whats after apathy?

Quote
Unfortunately, that's what people have been saying for the last three years. Turns out they were/are wrong. The third option after going up or down is staying the same. I keep thinking KU is about to turn the corner and get back to respectability, only to find more of the "same sh*t, different day" type results.

I haven't given up hope of getting another win this year, but it doesn't look overly promising at this point. Fortunately, KU should be better next year, but then again, I thought the same thing about this year compared to last. Sure the defense appears to be better, but the end result appears to be still remaining a bottom feeder.
