As far as the fans go, KU fans are no different than any other fanbase in the country at schools not name Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, etc. Win and they show up. People went to the scrimmage because there was a damn good product to see (for free). People give the "shrug and smile" because the product is hullabaloo. There are less than 10 football programs in the country who would have had solid attendance the last 3 years with the teams we've fielded.
this one will always get me

Fans don't show up because they are shitty fans and that's all there is to it

We just had 53k+ and we are 2-4

This team hasn't quit, and I still believe they can break through and win a conference game. Who knows, they might pull the upset over Baylor this coming Saturday.

The most annoying part of the game? Simple. Our "neighbors" in the stands didn't attend so we got to enjoy the game surrounded by OU fans, and their sisters - who were also their dates to the prom. If you aren't going to attend the game, then give your tickets to the Boys and Girls Club or burn them. We didn't buy season tickets so that we could have Soomer Booners surroung us.

Oh football gods, look upon our misery and please grant us a conference victory this season!

I about puked today watching Mizzou remain undefeated here in the show me state.

The difference is that we're on our way to an 8-4 season and top 25 finish, and they're on their way to a 2-10 season highlighted by a last second victory over an 0-12 sun belt team and finishing out with a 29th straight conf loss.

Serious question...could ku football in its current state be competitive in the MVC? I really do think they could be in the FCS playoff hunt by 2015. I'd be willing to consider lolly and lakes opinion on this matter as they currently reside in said conference. Thanks go cats.

If we hadn't won a conference game in 23 attempts you can bet your ass we wouldn't have a full stadium.

I think a full stadium helps prevent you from losing 23 straight conference games.

No question the two go hand in hand.  When fans care more about a second rate sport like bball it crushes the football program. Not just at ku but pretty much everywhere that it happens.

Iowa State has been selling out games despite being terrible this year.  You can't even buy a hillside ticket for next week's game unless you go to the secondary market.  This is an interesting article about it:

For many, it's too difficult to get to Iowa City for a game, so they start going to Iowa State games, just to have something to do. Weird fan base/population.

Look I didn't come here to lose football games.  There are certain things that have to be done first.  The first thing you have to do is get your guys to buy in, and they did.  The second thing you have to get them to do is toe the line, and they did.  The third thing you gotta get them to do is compete, and they did.  Now the results don't always turn out the way you want them to, but once you've got those ingredients, once you've gotten those things under your belt, turning the corner becomes a relatively easy thing to do.  Now how fast we turn the corner, can't really tell you yet, but I can tell you this, we get enough good guys in here, guys that aren't afraid to challenge the coming, coming here and to be a part of something special, we are gonna do something special.

Any chance of KU staying within 35 of Baylor? Briles & Co. may put up 80 this week...

I think KU is better defensively than ISU, but worse offensively. Baylor is going to have a lot of short fields to work with and KU won't score until the starters come out, and maybe not even then. 64-7 Baylor.

Damn, I fell pretty far behind this past week, but I guess it was a historical game.

This was early last week.

Coaches on the hot seat

3. Terry Bowden, Akron

5. Mack Brown, Texas

And this reminded me of when RP wouldn't say the names of the other team's players, but weird for a player to do it to his teammate.

Quote
The block took a bounce into Oklahoma defensive back Aaron Colvin’s hands, and he returned it 98 yards for two points, extending Oklahoma’s lead to eight. Tight end Jimmay Mundine, who blocks on KU’s kicking team, said special teams are often so consistently similar that teams can game plan around attacking a certain weak spot. He said it’s a collective effort for a routine field goal to go smoothly.

“We as a group have got to take more pride in field goals,” Mundine said. “And our kicker has to get the ball higher as well.”

So far ku has shown surprising fight in their games.  This might be the week we see them start to quit.  Sooner or later they are going to realize weis is full of crap and stop listening.  I think this has already happened on the offensive side of the ball.  Dave campo has done a solid job of getting the d to play hard and sort of kind of decent.  But having to be out there about 100 snaps against this Baylor offense might be the tipping point for them.

This should be the official motto for Iowa State:

“We are an anomaly, and it’s something I am very proud of,” Pollard said.

I'll say two things again.   I am not particularly enamored with our coaching staff, but I still think our staff takes that ku team to a bowl.
