I mean this is essentially a college homecoming game for the majority of ku fans so kinda feels a little unfair
They're bowling in Chicago?

Gives me PTSD thinking about playing in the pinstripe bowl

My first thought. The infamous throat slash penalty.

It was a salute. And it was bullshit.

The salute penalty was awful for a lot of reasons, most of all because it spawned a whole FB group.

Yeah can any stadium nerds explain what this picture is showing? I’m trying to figure out what’s changed about the stadium other than I guess they covered up the field?

So long most architecturally significant portion of KU Memorial Stadium.

Soon to be replaced by a down market MLS'ified/suburban office park look.   :frown:

Somewhere on the KU campus, maybe the union, I've seen aerial photos of the growth of Memorial Stadium from bleachers to that shithole that about half that went under the wrecking ball. Like, they were real proud of the stadium's evolution.  Now they tore much of it the eff down.

My question is how do they address the real problem of so much seating being beyond the goal line because of the spacious horseshoe on the closed-in side of the stadium to accomidate the historic running track? I assume they plan to place the MLS section closer to the field, which will ruin the view on that side of the closest seats in the horseshoe.

I'm sorry my tax dollars are paying for this ill-conceived patch.

An (engineer) friend claimed last night they had info about KUFB having to play at GEHA next fall because this won't be done?  Maybe he was BS me...

i don’t think they have a home yet for next year but shawnee mission south stadium would be a good option, it’s huge.  pete lives right by there.

it seems like it would be a lot of work to retrofit children’s mercy park to a football stadium.  goal posts secured in a cement filled bucket? arrowhead? would be weird to see the kansas jayhawks play their home games in missouri.

are haskell’s facilities an option?

do we show the ultimate TSC and let them be the Chargers to our Rams?  they did play a lot of Friday night games this season so it could work.

KU has already announced that Phase 1 (the west and north sides that are currently being demolished) won't be complete until the start of the 2025 season. The east side stands will remain for the 2024 season. So, we're looking at playing our home games in some combination of Memorial (reduced capacity at ~20K) and GEHA. Rumors that one of our BMDs who has an ownership interest in Sporting KC was trying to push that angle, but I doubt it would happen.

I think it was in '13 that we played our spring game at Sporting KC.  I went to it and it was not very crowded.

Sporting KC maybe?

That's going to be really difficult. For starters, the field is entirely too small for a D1 game. The goalposts literally are right against the wall on both ends. Secondly, it world absolutely destroy that field. The only time they have hosted football was our spring game when the WSC was being played and the D2 National Championship, which takes place after the MLS season is done.

Most of the college football season is during the MLS playoffs and SKC won't be able to guarantee KU Saturday home dates. It's possible that they may do one or two September games there but I can't see anything beyond that.
