Quote from: Beems on the Phog

You got laughed at because you claimed that no upgrades or renovations would occur at KU until 2017, and then, shortly after that, KU removed the track.  For years, K-State fans made fun of KU for having a track at our football stadium, and now that it's removed, you're acting like it was nothing.  They also removed the chain link fence and replaced it with a black, decorative fence.  I realize those are both minor improvements, but it's not like KU has just done nothing as you guys keep saying.

Everyone on here has pretty much conceded that no major stadium renovations will take place until KU has completed other projects and raised enough private funding.  The lack of on-field success is the biggest obstacle when it comes to getting things going, but I think KU will have enough money from the Big 12 TV contract, private donations, and athletic revenue to announce something by 2016-2017.

Technically yes Beems, it isn't nothing, but it's what? The least amount you could have done. High schools have done more to their stadiums.

My neighbor resurfaced his driveway and refenced his lawn last weekend. Maybe he shouldve been their AD.

Need pics of the "black decorative fence".

I can't believe you guys are saying no improvements have been made, they took out a track and fence!!!

I think they went from galvanized chain link to black chain link fencing. Maybe even upgraded to vinyl coated.

They probably just threw a black tarp over the chain link fence, similar to how Baylor put brick around their field.

So I go lurk and there's a lot of funny stuff.   Lot of conspiratorial stuff about how Brownback and friends have it out for KU and throw everything they can at K-State.   I mean nothing says you get everything you want like having to finance almost every net new facility project out of your own pocket.   $300 million in new construction going on at K-State right now and the state tossed in a few coins to pay for a little of the engineering expansion, otherwise about $200 plus million in private money and about $70 million in bonds that K-State Housing is responsible for paying off.   I understand the new Geo-Sciences Building and Seaton Hall project will also all be private money.

I also enjoyed how if the schools were privatized it would kill K-State.  Yeah, a school that derives about 18% (and dropping) of its total funding from the state would get killed off if privatized.

Never stop Phogistan.

Our new anti fungus spray money will cover that remaining 18%, no problem.  :gocho:

If a sleeping giant is asleep too long, you should probably go check if it's still breathing.

Somehow, the narrative over there is that we debt service everything, and we're all too poor to donate that kind of money since our endowment is so small.

K-State's total long-term debt is damn near $80 million.

KU's total long-term debt is $46.8 million, and we've done way more athletic facility upgrades recently.

You guys are poor as eff, and your campus is one big flood plain.

Beems does make a good  point, though Manhattan is not a "flood plain".  Manhattan would wash down to Wamego if the dam at Tuttle Creek ever broke.  It was, in fact, a huge concern during the 1993 flood.  Their athletics facility "upgrades" are laughable compared to K-State, and the value added is far greater than the debt differential.  That is some good trolling right there.

Fantastic.

Capital Facility Projects financed by the respective  athletic departments (not by university housing, developers, student fees or taxpayers)  since 1988:

K-State $243 Million   :kstategrad:

KU $120 million
