some of the land north of kimball is owned by the foundation I think, where their half built building is (btw, are they ever going to finish that bastard).  would hope they keep it from being just a bunch of chains and keep it from ruining tailgating.  I'm guessing one of those hopes will come true.

I'm just concerned that taking out about half of the tailgating used by students is going to make the K-State student experience a little bit worse.

Let students tailgate on the rec fields, prob solved.

I realize they have nothing to do with the profit, but they do bring the rowdy;  Why are we shitting all over the student experience?

K-state cares about the students way more than most colleges. When I was there we had a "holy crap" amount of room to get crazy in. Cut that in half and it's still a crap-ton more room than most places.

Is this supported by fact? What are student spaces like at other blue blood football schools?

Way smaller.

I'll confirm. KU doesn't have red endzones, nor do they have green grass at the end of their grandstands.

The appearance of actual construction equipment instantly let's you know it's not KU.   KU would just a hang a sign over the hole.   "Filled in Sink Hole Club coming soon!"

I wonder if Ku was planning to utilize sinkholes in its two - phase 1)remove track, 2)lower field plan?

Seems a lot more realistic than raising money or borrowing from the endowment.

The last page could be in its own thread called "K-State wants to be Iowa State". That sounds rough ridin' amazing, I'm sorry you won't be able to play corn hole in a sheep field.

Iowa State isn't the school with a farm directly adjacent to the stadium.

Here's the thing.  BSFS is 1.3 miles from Anderson.  Perceived "heart" of campus.  But, it's not really the center of campus anymore.  Over the past decades, campus growth has been northwest.  Even if you don't consider jardine/athletic complex/rec center/vet complex part of campus, the stadium is still only .5mile from Claflin/Denison.

I definitely wish we'd built the thing on top of East Stadium years ago.  But, over the years, we chose to just extend campus to the football stadium.  Either way, it's essentially "on campus" in every sense of the phrase.

The city and K-State are about to embark on a massive overhaul of what they are calling the "Kimball Corridor" -- basically Kimball from College Ave to Tuttle Creek Blvd will be developed with condos, town homes, businesses, restaurants, etc. This is being done with NBAF  in mind, but it will certainly be a major benefit to Athletics. Within 5+ years, there won't be any more sheep lot parking, but there will be sports bars or restaurants across the street to get Pak'd in before a Catz hoops or foosball event.

You could make a pretty easy case that NBAF will be as important a city "center" as Anderson Hall currently is, and BSFS will be just down the street.

I love a good corridor plan, but over-saturating the market with bars would put a direct hit on Aggieville, all for the sake of a few more drinking options on Gameday. I don't think killing Aggieville is something many of you want to do.

There are other bars in Manhattan that are relatively successful. . .and Aggieville is still going strong.  I'm confident Aggieville will never die.

Nothing short of prohibition could kill aggieville.  As long as there is a infantry base 20 miles away and a greek system at KSU it will be fine.

When the economy went south they cancelled the project.  They are now hoping/planning to break it into up to four lots to sell to private bio-science-y firms that move in due to NBAF.

Of course, that could have changed and I missed it.

This type of development would more likely have a negative effect on what is happening with the new restaurants downtown.  I would rather preserve "The Setting" with continued sheep lot tailgating and redevelopment of cool old buildings than have a SoJoCo looking stripmall.
