It reminds me so much of the suites at Wichita Greyhound Park.  It closed in 2007 when the option of adding slot machines was voted down, but I just read that the owner would consider reopening it if the Kansas legislator passes a bill this year to allow slot machines.  If that passes, then perhaps KU would consider adding slot machines in Memorial as a way to boost attendance numbers.   :dunno:

Slot machines won't do the trick. Have to have money to play the slots.

Disagree.  Volume of white trash at casinos is very high.  If Lawrence has anything, it has plenty of white trash.

Don't forget the Eudora, Baldwin, and Tonganoxie residents. They'd love that crap.

Charlie's new recruiting tool:  "Come play football for me and you can run track at Rock Chalk Park!"   :frown:  Lil' bro is really stretching for positives in their football program.

I love that we are getting this park and the buzz that it has/will create. Think of the exposure! We might get lucky and snag a few football recruits, because they want to also run track! There aren't that many tracks like ours (5 in the world). That should help!

"You want to run track AND play football? Let me tell you about Rock Chalk Park." Charlie Weis new sales pitch.

Trendon Holliday ran track and played football at LSU.
Jeff Demps ran track and played football at Florda.

Interesting article about multi-sport athletes that made it to the NFL.

I've seen that "only 5 in the world/Top 5 track in the world" talking point a couple of times already.  Nice.  I believe the main criteria for receiving their track's designation is they actually measured the track a little more carefully before laying it out.

Rock Chalk Park is getting to host the 1st round of the 2016 NCAA Championships (but Oregon still gets the finals for the foreseeable future)

that's weird.  don't they know that KU has the best track facility in the country?  I've never even heard of this "oregon" or w/e.

ku track stadium: almost as nice as baylor's

and it's actually on campus.

Yeah loved the fact that a couple of times in the article they mentioned the goal and/or benefit of having the facility on campus and it is only 2 miles from campus.  Went to the 2010 Cats game in Waco.  Didn't pass by campus going to/from the game.  Area the stadium/track complex is in was below meh.  Floyd Casey was very unimpressive but was still better than what I remember KU's Memorial to be.  Also, if Baylor/KU are going to have a new shiny track complex, it is only a matter of time before Texas trumps them both, if they haven't already.
