I see two positions listed with a fair number of recruits, but how many high school kids play both ways these days, particularly at the larger schools?

I suspect at some high schools if you've got a stud you have to play them on both sides, and I understand the need at smaller schools. But at your 4a-5a-6a (around here 4a is equal to 6a in KS since there's not the school size disparity like you have in the midwest) how many guys typically play both ways?

My home town is one of the smaller KS 5A's and they still have several kids that play both sides.

I went to a large 5a and we didn't have anyone play both sides, except as backups. We also didn't have any studs.

It's VERY rare in Texas, but happens occasionally with some real studs. Penn State got a safety out of Celina, TX a couple of yrs ago that played a little WR on offense, but it's the exception generally speaking.

Probably alot play starter at one position, then backup at a position on the other side.

yeah 6A kansas only studs.

true story, in a game my senior year i never once stepped off the field during the first half. i was on offense, defense, punt, punt return, kickoff, kick return, FG.

Same. Oline, Dline, and kicker for kickoff

I was pretty good at FG's too, but my dumb coach never went for them so I never tried any in a game.

I went to a large 6A school in KS and there were a handful of us that played both ways. Our coach coached at a small school before hand so I always figured he just never lost his 3A mentality.

Small 4A, pretty much every snap. But we also had super studs and lots of depth so we rotated a lot of guys in on defense. Went to Holton. 06' grad

At my medium sized 5A high school I don't know how many players played both ways because I didn't go out for football after 7th grade when this huge kid ran over me and stepped on my face.

At the larger, powerhouse schools it really just depends on the coach/region.

For example, Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas and Hamilton in Arizona are in highest classification in their respective states and almost never play guys both ways. Hamilton did last year with Cole Luke (Notre Dame) but people say that was one of the first time they ever played a guy both ways.

At some other powerhouses, especially in California, guys play both ways all the time. Whoever said it was rare in Texas was right, but it seems really common on the west coast for some reason.

I went to a class A school in Michigan (was the second biggest classification) which was about the size of Manhattan High (1500 kids).

We only had two guys play both ways, and four or five that didn't and played in the big 10 along with a mess of guys who played one side and ended up in the MAC.
