Should K-State drop basketball as a scholarship sport?
« on: July 10, 2013, 11:16:55 AM »
Even though we've won title after title #1straight I've heard that our AD and Pres have had serious discussions about basketball as a scholarship sport going forward. With the popularity of NCAA baseball on the rise, college basketball is about to fall off a cliff. We know that no one makes money from basketball, so I'm with Captain Currie and think its time to focus on our revenue sports.

Here are the facts:
Basketball popularity peaked in 1979 with Magic vs. Bird, last year's NCAA tourney drew an all time low rating and lost CBS 2 billion dollars.

Kids don't play basketball anymore, because of concussions. Baseball is now the #1 sport worldwide.

Only 3 teams even made money from basketball last year (KSU, Harvard, and Arkansas Pine-Bluff) and it is noteworthy that we were on the list, but is it sustainable? The average school lost 2.9 million on basketball last year and that's only going to rise now that the NCAA is cracking down on the rules.

I'm curious as to the thoughts of the K-State Wildcat Nation.

Sometimes you have to give up a hobby to take on a new one.

Like, I gave up stamp collecting when I had mastered it and became awesome at baseball.  Am I comparing basketball to stamp collecting?  maybe I am

Pretty good arguments guys. What's left to accomplish in this hobby? Time to pack it up and move on. What should we turn the fOOD into?

This is what I'm saying. Once you've peaked, drop the mic and walk away, especially when there's no future. Were you going to be a professional stamp collector? No. Look forward, not backwards.

Place where MLB scouts can come watch our Kansas State baseball team that is stocking the majors with talent.

So we turn the fOOD into a #boozecats training facility, and the current #boozecats indoor into an arcade with bar? Would take.

K-State should just give up sports altogether and start a new BBS program.  Then you guys might actually be able to win a national championship in something for once.

Why would we drop the best football and baseball teams in the conference when they are the 2 most important sports?  That's idiotic.

Lets get a soccer team instead of basketball.  They can play in the Bill, and we can get a gE suite and get drunk as hell.

And, I love scarves, which you wear to soccer games.

would scott, s_c, spaces, etc get their own soccer board or would it still be "other sports..."?

This is a forward thinking plan. What do you think will be more popular in 5 years: basketball or soccer?

Should we call our team FC K-State?

Also, I think our menu in the gE suite should be more Euro since its soccer. Like flan and croissants and stuff.

there's an senior citizen living center down the block from my office.  my Christmas donation this year?  4 dozen basketballs.  those old men creamed their pants when they opened those boxes up.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.
