the key is to be on non-extreme weather coasts. vancouver, san fran, savannah, charleston, etc.

Do those southern ones really not get super hot?

nope, the ocean keeps it dry. a somewhat cooler miami with less hurricane activity. I had no idea about this either until this year when I started spending some time there for work. but, drive 3 hours inland and it's hot and humid and disgusting.

I am going to do some serious (hard core) investigation into this.

there is still humidity and it gets warm, just not KC in summer warm/humid. I don't want to oversell it as some 70s all year wonderland like San Fran but this January when I was there for about 10 days it was in the 60s every day and it's fairly nice even in summer (80s/90s).

Is it sunnier than Seattle?  I would murder people if I lived in Seattle.

I think it's fairly dry in winter and rainy in summer. I dunno, I care more about temp range than rain.

if you are wanting something active don't do it. it's super chillax. if you want to just stroll around and see hundreds of historical crazy old things and lounge in a park (where you can byob) and eat at really old shrimp and grits and seafood type places and whatnot it's the place for you. stay at the Andaz. don't stay anywhere else. well, maybe stay at the Bohemian Hotel if you don't stay at the Andaz. nowhere else though. also all the restaurants have plastic cup dispensers at the front door so you can bring your drink with you because that's legal (see byob at the city parks comment earlier).

% of a day spent within the different temp ranges throughout the year.  the temp ranges are given on the website.  they also have cloud cover, wind, precip, humidity, etc.  it's a fantastic site.

I've done a ton of research on the Vancouver area even though I was most interested in relocating to Victoria on Vancouver Island.

Here are the downsides -

You can't rough ridin' get in.  It no longer matters if you have tons of dough, or if you have a successful business you could relocate there.  Unless you get a workers visa for a job that's in serious demand, or get an investment from a Canadian investment firm, it isn't going to happen right now.

Eventually there will be a huge megathrust earthquake in the Cascadia subduction zone near Vancouver Island.  There's only a 10-14% chance of a 9+ earthquake happening there in the next 50 years, but that's still a high risk when you consider how bad it would be since they aren't all that well prepared.  The odds and severity will keep increasing as time goes by.

I've spent the last few years researching the US and Canada for relocation options.  I can work from anywhere and I'd like my kids to have the best education I can afford.  Manhattan is overpriced for what it provides young families, but to be honest I've been kind of amazed at how well it stacks up against other places.  We're still traveling around to prospective spots so we can make a final decision in the next few years.

When I first started it was worldwide.  My top countries were Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.  I actually did spend quite a bit of time looking into them, but the logistics of moving, traveling back and forth, and getting a visa to go there made me rethink going outside of North America.  I was under the assumption at the time that getting into Canada wouldn't be too bad, but they've unfortunately changed their immigration policies quite a bit the last few years.

it's not.  it's pretty similar to your expressed preference.  a little less seasonal, but with more pronounced temp swings within a day.  the most significant difference is whether you want your precip in the summer or winter.

vancouver.

toluca.

immigrating is a huge problem.  but if you have money you can mostly go anywhere.  and for a lot of places you can effectively live there with just a tourist visa.

i guess if you have kids and you want to educate them that' be a big complication.

from the small stuff that i looked at, a college education from the us pretty much gets you in depending on what it's in i guess. like sys said though, a tourist visa is still good for most and then you can usually renew or get a sneaky way to renew or whatever.

I can't get that web site on my mobile phone right now, but I will tell you two states I like a lot.  Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Odds are that I end up in one of those, actually.

too cold, go cats

I mostly agree, but I don't really spend any time at all "out doors" between November and March in Kansas...so, in a way, who gives a eff if the winter months are a bunch colder?

The upper northwest seems too rainy.  I wanted to wack myself after just a few days in that rain.

Dude Im with ya, Northeren Girlz put out like crazy.  I boned a girl from Wisc. Back in the college days and I still wack off to that time with her.
