Congrats Bread!

As a father of 2, I can tell you the essentials you need for fatherhood:

Coffee (for AM)
Booze (for PM)
Baby Bjorn (these things are incredibly useful)

As of 8:06 this morning I'm one.

In this thread, we post about the cool/funny/quirky/awesome/weird things our dads (or grandpas) do. If you want to talk about how your dad was terrible, or a dad that isn't related to you, or you as a dad, find another thread.

 :dubious: :dubious: :dubious:

JK, 'grats, Bread! First Lunt, now Baby Bread--a great day for Breads everywhere.  Will you raise him EMAW?

Now, back to the topic at hand...

Boy, it sounds like this group of goEMAW'rs sure have some great dads. Here's another story about WonderMeal Sr. that I was thinking about today:

When I was in third grade, I was terrified of nuclear war. Not sure why. I couldn't sleep and everything, because I thought we were going to be incinerated by some unknown foreign power. One night, I was really freaked out and when I told my dad why, he let me know that it was super unlikely that a nuclear bomb would be launched in the first place. He also mentioned that even if one was launched, it probably wouldn't be launched at Kansas.

After that, I didn't stay up late at night worried about nuclear war anymore. Thanks, Dad!

(weird post.)

I was super scared of aliens as a kid and my dad didn't do jack crap to calm me down about it. Hopefully Bread will be better about it when the time comes. :flush:

But Kansas was one of the more likely targets as it housed many missile silos.
They have since been deactivated.

no it wasn't.

protip - every state in the entire USA has their own myth about why their state would be one of the first hit if there was a nuclear launch.

I'm thinking the first states hit would be the ones closest to the offender.

My dad took me to the Def Leppard "7-Day Weekend" tour at Bramlage when I was nine. It was a real sacrifice for him considering his line of work but he put his earplugs in and sat down reading that Time Magazine by the glow of the lasers shooting all over the place. Meanwhile a third grade SB is standing up belting out every word to "Make Love Like A Man."

my dad showed no outward emotions other than occasional anger when I was growing up. my mom told me she's never seen him cry. now he's becoming much more of a softy which is pretty adorable to watch. has never told me he loved me or really anything close. we both know it though so he doesn't have to say anything. also he's pretty much BITB at being a really good human being. he's one of those paul harvey so god made a farmer types.

Oh man sd, can I relate! My dad and I didn't start saying we loved each other until I moved away and only talked to them like once a month (more now). My mom said she has only seen him cry once, at his grandma's funeral (even though she was basically his mom). Lots of anger, and argumentativeness. He also taught me the power of knowing peeps, got lots of discounts and special treatments at the grocery store and mechanic's. Just a total stud bad ass when it comes down to it.

My Dad had a rough childhood and as a result doesn't show a lot of emotion.  He's great though!  He was the first person in his family to go to college (he paid his own way be working nights at the local grocery store stocking shelves) and then going to class in the day.  He and my Mom have been together since highschool.  He's loyal too, he stayed with the same company for 44 years and moved all the way up to serving on the Board of Directors.  This allowed him to pretty much give me most anything I wanted and everything I needed growing up.  Plus he paid for my both my undergrad and grad school educations.  I plan on affording my two daughters every opportunity he gave me.

He's currently enjoying his retirement by playing golf three times a week and is taking my Mom on their third cruise in the past two years next week.  Love ya Pops!

My dad figured out how much water comes out of his garden hose per minute so he could know how much to water each tomato plant. He then timed himself with his smart phone (which he was super proud of) to make sure he watered each tomato plant the same.  :D

Great bump, rqcat.

When my dad goes out of the country for work, he sends everyone in the family these really long emails every day detailing exactly what he did, ate, saw, etc.  I'm talking like, at least one page of text single-spaced. They're kind of interesting, but at the same time we're just like, "WonderDad, these take a long time to type every day--just spend that time enjoying yourself."

He also buys cheap t-shirts on the street that say THAILAND and have elephants and tuktuks all over them or whatever.

My dad is abnormally ticklish around his belly.  Cannot resist a surprise tickle whenever I see him.

Also, took my family to legoland this weekend, bought the boy like $250 in legos (might have bought some star wars legos for myself).  Like to think that's pretty awesome.
