All your dads sound pretty cool.  My dad was a hippy drug dealing unemployed loser who skipped out on me when I was 2 years old.  He did call me once about 15 years ago in an attempt (I would assume) at some sort of reconciliation but he was too high to be coherent.  He just kept rambling on about how high he was and how  hard he was going to bone some strange at the party he was currently at.

Not to make light of your upbringing but that story is pretty funny.

What makes it funny is that it's true.  According to my mother my father use to like to sit me (as a toddler) on some rather large piles of narcotics and snap pictures with his polaroid.

I would love to get ahold of those pictures for some #tbt facebook love.
Wow as bad as that sounds and must have hurt growing up, you are probably lucky he did skip out before he had a chance to ruin your life really bad.
Yeah. it's only funny because you seemed to survive it and are a functioning adult.

Yes, the last sentence is outstanding.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

- Born/raised on a farm in western ks.

- Went to purple cats university to major in computer science

- When he arrived at KSU he thought Engineers were train drivers and asked my mom if she was going to be a secretary(Accounting Degree).

- Spent the summer of 1977 at marine boot camp basic training while still at KSU but never actually joined the marines(Not sure how this worked but he says he wanted to do computer work at the pentagon, it was some sort of intership type thingy or something). Spent the next 5 years worried he would get called into active duty to fight Iranians.

- In the early 80's he wrote a computer program on an old McIntosh that analyzed where they ball would land in roulette. Took computer with him to Vegas and would run back and forth from the table to his room to input new data every 30 minutes then comeback down and bet.

- Planted some fancy tree's on my grandparents farm in Western KS with the intention of turning them into gunstocks, all the tree's died.

- Invested in a racing greyhound with some work buddies, failed miserably and the dog was taken "To live on a farm"(No one seems to know exactly what happened to the dog  :frown:)

- Has been attempting to breed his 2 african grey parrots for the last 15 years with no success.

- Farms honey bee's as a hobby and lets bee's sting him as some sort of weird therapy.

- Used to inject himself with copperhead venom until one day he injected too much and his leg swelled up really big for about a week, didnt go to hospital.

- Religiously listens to Rush Limbaugh every day and still has a picture that hangs in the living room of George and Laura thanking him for campaign contributions in 2004.

- Drives a Prius.

- Big believer in end of the world stuff(Y2K, 2012, Yellowstone Super Volcano, etc) but does nothing to prepare besides buy lots of ammo that  sits in our basement. In 1999 I spent NYE on the grandparents farm "Just in Case"

- Tons of crazy theories about Aliens, once asked me how he could save a video off youtube before the government took it down ()

-Raised 3 well adjusted children and put them through college  :D

Awesome.  Did his gambling program work?

He claims it did but my mom just kind of rolls her eyes.

All the program did was analyze which section of the board the ball was most likely to land on based on where it had landed in the past. If the wheel is just slightly out of calibration it can cause to ball to favor one part of the wheel.

Not sure if they did it back then but now casino's will used 2 or 3 different sized balls and switch them out to negate any tendencies.

My Dad posts in the ESPN comments of stories about KSU games sometimes. He says Texas fans are his favorites.

CF3, what are some quotes from your favorite Dad rants? Does he have any go-to/greatest hits rants?

WonderMeal Sr. doesn't have any really good ones that I can think of, but most of his are Brownback- or Bush-related (still).

I went to my mailbox today and what should I find? Yep. An envelope addressed to me in my dad's handwriting. Opened it up, and like always, it's an article he clipped from The Manhattan Mercury. This time the article is actually NOT about MHS tennis, but instead about--yep, you guessed it: the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. He attached a post-it note.

Dear SkinnyBenny,

If you ever find yourself in Cleveland, you should check out this museum. Seems pretty cool!

Love, Dad.

Super jelly of you guys doing cool guy stuff with your dads. Also, man Francis, that crap story is pretty crazy. Congrats on choosing to grow up and not follow in your father's footsteps.
My dad never cussed. I mean never. crap wasn't a cuss word when used in the context of cow manure and we said that word quite a bit in that context, but not dad. He always called it manure. I saw him catch his finger on a very sharp object and it was instant blood and it took 20 stitches to sew him up. What did he say when it happened? He grabbed his finger and said, "you dirty dog!" (but in the tone of voice that you knew it hurt like a son of a gun)

My dad is a very successful guy. Graduated from K-State in '85 despite having two kids with my mother before he was done with college. Loves the Cat's maybe more than anything. Was team #LIFE and also thinks oscar Weber is a dork. Obviously a great role model.

My dad is coming to visit in Cairo. This is the first time he's left the country (not counting a family vacation to a Mexican resort) since he visited me in Chile in 2001. His level of anxiety is adorable. He basically views it like an Indiana Jones movie and is pretty sure the streets are constantly filled with a mix of protestors and crocodiles, and he keeps forwarding me articles about bombings and stuff in Egypt and asking if it's near us.

He's also a K-State engineering grad, and the top thing on his list to see in Egypt is...the Aswan Dam.

Another fun fact: In grad school, he had several classes with two Egyptians and is trying to look them up to hang out while he's here (one of them had the last name "Hussein" and one time my dad asked if he was related to King Hussein of Jordan and the guy got all offended and the other guy explained that Egyptians didn't like Jordanians or something and that remains the core tenet of my Dad's views on Middle Eastern politics to this day: "Well, there's historically always been a lot of tensions between Egyptians and Jordanians...").

Actual conversation at coffee shop with his rancher bros

"Has anyone around ever gone there before?"

"Well, my son."

"Yeah, but has anyone ever come back?"

I take that back, my Dad does like watching those shows where they shoot animals in Africa.  He would probably do that, but only as part of a very organized tour package.
