So... anything y'all suggest for the annual Big 12 tourney trip?

(Probs doesn't matter as we'll just be wasted by noon every day and never go anywhere or eat at any of the places we wanted and just have an Airbnb full of Whopper bar and Sonic leftovers, but still.)

Go order Mission Taco to go and walk across the street to eat it at Double Shift.
To make this idea even greater...grab a bike share at 13th and grand and take it to 18th and oak stop...it's all downhill and with limited time between sessions, well worth to get down there asap.

Brewery emperial also has solid food.

New Joe's KC in p&l should be open but that will be a complete shitshow.

@nicname would agree this isn't the best idea for me.

And we've stayed downtown, have stayed around the plaza a few times, but have stayed in/around Westport the last few years, and will be again this year. Spend the mornings there, head to PnL for the day, either stay there most of the night, end up going straight to bed from there, or find something to stick our nose in somewhere along the way back to the place.

Running list of things to do/places to eat that we'll probably be way too drunk to do.

mhkpasa - Mission Taco to go and walk across the street to eat it at Double Shift
lib^7 - mini corn dogs at ruins pub
Phil Titola - grab a bike share at 13th and grand and take it to 18th and oak stop. Brewery emperial also has solid food, Joe's KC if not a crap show
mocat - korean wings at boulevard tavern

Minneapolis $179MM for police for 2018. Atlanta $218MM for police in 2017. KCMO $254MM for police for 18-19. Whaaaa?

How much more should they get clams?

those are both smaller cities than KCMO, both in population and (maybe more importantly?) sq mileage

kcmo 481k / 315 sq miles
atlanta 472k / 133 sq miles
minneapolis 413k / 54 sq miles

Good point...although not sure the miles of sparsely populated northland really take that many resources.  Those were just a couple metros bigger than us that stood out to me with significantly smaller budgets on this graphic (then went and found a more recent number for MPLS):

https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2017/08/07/how-much-do-u-s-cities-spend-every-year-on-policing-infographic/#53b96ebee7b7

What other cities could we use to compare?

Here is another data point...PD officers (not support staff) per 10k population.

http://www.governing.com/gov-data/safety-justice/police-officers-per-capita-rates-employment-for-city-departments.html

KC comes in at 28.3...pretty high up the list.  Atlanta has ~300 more total officers and more per capita than we do...for less money.

any chance we trust the one person who’s job it is to know this stuff, to know this stuff?
nope!  let’s just go by square miles.  better idea- let’s go by population.

i mean, it seriously boggles the mind that those are the data points that you guys landed on.  I got an irl laugh out of it at least

Chief Smith who has only been in the KCPD....that is the only data point you want to use as to whether or not KCPD has enough budget?

i’d take his opinion over yours, since - you know, it’s his job
of course, your job is to defend slyin james and you’re great at it

one way we could get more cops on the beat is to relieve slyin of his two cops that escort him to diebles on a weekly basis.

just so odd

We could get a lot more cops on the street than that if the FOP would work with the city on pensions and chief would look for other efficiencies (also his job), compare your police force to other comparable departments (also his job)....but that is a lot harder than just demanding more money without any local accountability..but let's not forget PD funding has increased under Slyin' big time after Funkhouser decimated it.

Maybe...just maybe...it's not a funding problem at KCPD?
